WESMEN VS SASKATCHEWAN THIS WEEKEND
This coming weekend all four Wesmen teams will be in competition against the Saskatchewan Huskies both at the Duckworth Centre and on the road in Saskatoon.
At the Duckworth Centre, the Wesmen basketball teams will take on the Huskies for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. Game times are 6:00 p.m. (women) and 8:00 p.m. (men’s). 1290 CFRW will carry the men’s game live on Friday night with Paul Edmonds handling the play by play duties and Steve Thompson adding the color commentary. The Wesmen volleyball teams both coming off a bye week, will resume their respective Canada West regular season schedules on the road in Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday and Saturday. Match times are 6:00 p.m. (women) and 8:00 p.m. (men).

FRIDAY PRE-GAME FESTIVITIES
A 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament and pre-game party will be held this Friday (Jan 15th) at the Duckworth Centre starting at 3:15 p.m. The event titled “SnoBalls of Fury” is presented by the Wesmen and the University of Winnipeg Students Association. Prizes will be awarded. Deadline to register a team in this year’s tournament is Wednesday, January 13 at noon. To register a team or for more information please email  wesmen@theuwsa.ca.

BASKETBALL TEAMS GET MIXED RESULTS
The Wesmen Basketball Teams opened up the second half of the Canada West regular season on the road in British Columbia this past weekend. On Friday night the teams were in Abbotsford to face the Fraser Valley University Cascades. The women’s team started the weekend on a winning note defeating the Cascades 64-41. Randie Gibson led the team with a game high 14 points. Alex MacIver added 13 points and six rebounds. Catie Gooch finished with 10 points. On the men’s side, the Wesmen dropped a close 77-68 decision to Fraser Valley. Nick Lother led the Wesmen with a game high 22 points. Mike James and Eric Zimmerman each had 16 points. The following evening the teams were in Kamloops to face the Fraser Valley University Wolfpack. In the women’s game the Wolfpack defeated the Wesmen 76-69. Amy Ogidan led the team with a double-double 16 points, 13 rebounds. Catie Gooch finished with 14 and Alex MacIver and Randie Gibson added 11 points each. On the men’s side, the Wolfpack defeated the Wesmen 94-60. Nick Lother scored a team high 18 points. Peter Lomuro finished with 14 points and six rebounds.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Nick Lother, men’s basketball – Lother, in his fourth season with the Wesmen led the team in scoring in the team’s two game road trip against Fraser Valley and Thompson Rivers. Lother scored a game high 22 points in Friday’s game against the Cascades.

•    Currently 12th in Canada West Conference scoring averaging 15.5 points per game.

Randie Gibson, women’s basketball – Gibson, fifth year guard with the Wesmen had a consistent two games this past weekend against Fraser Valley and Thompson Rivers. In Friday’s 64-41 victory over the Wolfpack, Gibson led the team with 14 points and six rebounds.
