- The University of Winnipeg Wesmen would like to congratulate Wesmen Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce on his selection to the Canadian National Wrestling Team Coaching Program.

Bruce will jump right into competition as one of the head coaches for the Canadian National Cadet FILA (U18) team that will be competing at the Pan American Wrestling Championships in Medelin, Columbia from August 9-11, 2013.

Canada will be sending both a Menís & Womenís Freestyle team to this event.† This is an event that Canada traditionally does well in, and is supported by countries within the North, Central & South American continents.

ď"To be selected for such a role within our National Team Coaching Program is a privilege, I am looking forward to working with the other National Team coaches and athletes in achieving our goals for this event", added† Bruce.


July 15, 2013 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Menís Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce are pleased to announce that Kody Vakanis has committed to the University of Winnipeg and will join the Menís Wrestling Program for the start of the 2013-2014 Canada West season in September.

Vakanis (18) recently graduated from Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie, Ontario. He recently captured silver medals at both the Canada Cup and Canadian National Juvenile Wrestling Championships. Vakanis has had success at the provincial level winning the gold medal at the 2012 Ontario Juvenile Provincial Championships and recently won medals at the Ontario Juvenile (silver) and Junior Championships (bronze).

He was a member of the KBAY Wrestling Club and was also a member of Team Ontario at the Canada Summer Games.

ďAnother solid recruit from on of the top developmental programs in the country. A very goal oriented athlete, Kody brings with him a tremendous work ethic that will serve him very well as he matures & develops at the CIS level. I feel heís very coachable young man with a bright future within the Wesmen programĒ, said Wesmen Menís Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce.



July 10, 2013 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Men's Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce are pleased to announce the commitment of Mitchell Berenz to the Men's Wrestling team for the upcoming 2013-2014 Canada West season.


Mitchell Berenz signs his commitment letter to attend the University of Winnipeg. Looking on is Athletic Director Doran Reid, Head coach Adrian Bruce and Mitchell's father Michael.

Berenz, 18 is a recent graduate from Arrowhead Union High School in Hartland, Wisconsin. He joins the Wesmen with more than 12 years experience in the sport, most recently with the Askern Wrestling Academy/Ringers Wrestling Club.

-3x Wisconsin State place winner

-3x Conference Champion

-4x Conference Finalist

-4x US National place winner

-152-41 career record

-3rd all time pin record at Arrowhead Union High School
