2013 University of Alberta Golden Bears Invitational Final Results
Saturday, January 5, 2013 - The Winnipeg Wesmen Men's and Women's Wrestling teams took part in their first meet of 2013 at the University of Alberta Golden Bears Invitational Tournament Saturday in Edmonton.

In the individual results, the Winnipeg Wesmen had five wrestlers place in the top five in their respective weight categories.
Briston Brenton, wrestling as a Club participant, finished in first place in the 82 kg wight class. Jake Miller also participating in the 82 kg weight class placed fourth. Kyle Nguyen had a successful tournament finishing in second place in the 130 kg weight class.
On the women's side, Maura Martina came in third place in the 82 kg wight class while Emily Kessler placed fifth in the 55 kg class.

Men's Wrestling Results - Saskatchewan Huskies Open
Saturday, November 24, 2012 - The Wesmen Men's Wrestling team finished in fifth place at the 2012 University of Sakatchewan Huskies Open Saturday in Saskatoon.
Individual Results - Jake Miller 1st (76 kg), Briston Brenton (Club) 2nd (82 kg), Kyle Nguyen 2nd (130 kg), Brock Munro 6th (68 kg)

Wrestling Teams Open Up Season At Calgary Dinos Invitational
Fri - Sat Oct 26- 27, 2012 - WESMEN Men's & Women's Teams defeated the U of C Dinos in the Friday evening Duals competitions. Men 12-11 & Women 13-5.
WESMEN Men's & Women's Teams lost both to duals the U of A Pandas in the Friday evening Duals competitions. Men 10-17 & Women 0-20.

June 11, 2012 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Mens Wrestling roster is growing. Head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce the commitments of Cean Bod-oy (Vancouver, B.C.) and Alec Delcourt (Comox, B.C.) to the mens wrestling program in time for the 2012-2013 Canada West season in September.
Cean Bod-oy (20) joins the Wesmen after spending time at Douglas College and the prestigious Burnaby Mountain Wrestling Club. He joined both programs as a walk on,
Bod-oy spent his high school years at John Oliver Secondary School. He
was named the Most Valuable Wrestler and was also honoured as both the
Citizen and Sportsman of the Year following his grade 12 season. Ceans
experience was evident serving as both a co-captain and an Assistant
Head Coach at John Oliver. Off the mat, Bod-oy spent his time working with children in after school, summer and teen prevention programs. He also volunteered with the British Columbia Wrestling Association where he assisted with age group developmental programs.
Cean is an exceptionally gifted athlete with amazing athleticism who is only just beginning to find himself in the sport. In Cean we have found an athlete with an unparalleled passion for the sport, his ability to contribute in a team environment and motivate those around him through his efforts is contagious. Coming to our program at the right time, Cean has the opportunity and potential to achieve great success at the CIS level. His goal is to help bring a championship to the University in his time here. Another great addition to our men's program, we feel very privileged to have him, said Head coach Adrian Bruce.
Alec Delcourt joins the University of Winnipeg after recently graduating from Georges P. Vanier High School in Comox, British Columbia.
Delcourt
(17) was a three time Vancouver Island High School Champion and a two
time silver medalist at the British Columbia Provincial Championships.
In 2010 he won the gold medal at the British Columbia Summer Games. He
also won gold and was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the Alberni
Invitational Tournament. Delcourt capped off an impressive 2010 with a
bronze medal finish at the Western Canadian Wrestling Championships and
just recently won a silver medal at the 2012 event."Another exciting addition to our Men's program, Alec is a young man with a tremendous amount of potential. I have found in Alec a great desire to learn and to be successful in every aspect of his life which I feel will really create a lot of opportunities for him within our program. Recognizing the value & importance of contributing in a "Team" environment, Alec fits perfectly in sync with the vision of our program we are very pleased to welcome him to the Wesmen family , added Bruce.
May 15, 2012 -University of Winnipeg Wesmen Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce the commitment of Kyle Nguyen to the Wesmen Mens Wrestling program for the start of the 2012-2013 season in September.

(18) joins the Wesmen with an impressive resume including a three time
National medalist (two silver, one bronze) along with being the 2011
Canada Cup Champion. Kyle was a member of the 2011 Canadian National
Team (Cadet) and placed 13th at the Cadet World Wrestling Championships
held in Szombathely, Hungary."A product of one of the top developmental programs in the country, Kyle is the complete package. He is a young man that is mature beyond his years and someone that I believe will have a tremendous positive impact on our program for many years to come. As impressive as his academic & athletic achievements are, it was his strengths & qualities as a person which I was drawn to and may well prove to be his greatest assets as he graduates into our program, said Wesmen head coach Adrian Bruce.
A three year team captain at John Oliver Secondary School (Vancouver, British Columbia), he led his team to a third place finish at the 2012 Provincial Championships. In his years as captain his team won 10 Provincial and 11 National medals. Nguyen was named both the schools Athlete and Wrestler of the Year on three occasions. He was recently honoured by BC Wrestling receiving both the Andy Laliberte Award for character and the Kjeld Brodsgaard Award for sportsmanship.
Kyle is a consistent honour roll student graduating with a 90+ average. Off the mat he helps out in the community working with inner-city children and youth in after school and summer programs in the Vancouver area.
He was recently a finalist for the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award for perseverance, academics, community service and athletic achievement.
"The addition of Kyle to our list of all-star recruits for next season further adds to the credibility to our program at the national level, added Bruce.
April 23, 2012 - Head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce that Briston Brenton has committed to the Wesmen Men’s Wrestling Program for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
Brenton
(21) from Casper Wyoming is a two-time State Champion and was named
both All-State and All-Conference on four occasions. The 5’10” graduate
from Natrona County High School twice won the “triple crown”, winning a
High School State title, State Freestyle and State Greco title all in
the same year. Brison was a two-time National Qualifier as a college
wrestler at Chadron State College (Chadron, Nebraska). “The older brother of Wesmen standout and Canada West Rookie of the Year Jessica Brenton, Briston will bring some strong leadership skills to a very young program. He has a very impressive list of credentials and a great deal of competitive experience at the national level. He is an exciting addition to our ever expanding men’s program”, added head coach Adrian Bruce.
April 10, 2012 - The University of Winnipeg and Mens Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce are pleased to announce the commitment of Brock Munro (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) to the Wesmen Mens Wrestling Program for the start of the 2012-2013 season in September.

18, recently won the gold medal at the 2012 Saskatchewan High School
Athletic Association Provincial Championship in the 69 kg weight class.
This past February he won a bronze medal at the Western Canada Elite
Tournament held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He compiled an impressive
record of 25-1 this past season at Carton Comprehensive High School and
was named the schools Wrestling MVP on two occasions. Brock is a two
time SHSAA Regional Champion and was also the 2011 Saskatchewan Amateur
Wrestling Association Provincial Champion. Brock is a shining example of where hard work and commitment can take you, he fits our program very well and we are very pleased to have him. He is the kind of wrestler that always seems to find a way to win and contribute in a team environment, added Wesmen head coach Adrian Bruce.
Brock is a member of the Prince Albert Wrestling Club and will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Winnipeg.
April 2, 1012 - A provincial champion is coming to the University of Winnipeg. Head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce that Jake Miller
(Barrie, Ontario) has committed to the University of Winnipeg Men’s
Wrestling Program for the start of the 2012-2013 season in September.Miller, a graduate of Innisdale Secondary School, comes to Winnipeg with an impressive resume. Included in that resume is a gold medal in the 77 kg weight class at the 2012 Ontario Federation of School Athletics Association Championships. He also won Provincial Championship medals in 2011 (silver) and 2010 (bronze). Miller won back to back Ontario Provincial Championships as a member of the Mariposa Wrestling Club. Jake was a silver medalist at the 2011 Stu Hart Tournament.
“Jake is regarded by many as one of the top recruits in the country on the men’s side. He is a young man with a wealth of ability coming to us from one of the top Wrestling Clubs in Canada. He is as talented as they come”, said Wesmen Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce.
At his own high school, Miller was named both the Athlete of the Year and Wrestler of the Year for three consecutive years. He graduated with honours last June and will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Winnipeg.
