2013 University of Alberta Golden Bears Invitational Final Results

Saturday, January 5, 2013 - The Winnipeg Wesmen Men's and Women's Wrestling teams took part in their first meet of 2013 at the University of Alberta Golden Bears Invitational Tournament Saturday in Edmonton.

In the individual results, the Winnipeg Wesmen had five wrestlers place in the top five in their respective weight categories.

Briston Brenton, wrestling as a Club participant, finished in first place in the 82 kg wight class. Jake Miller also participating in the 82 kg weight class placed fourth. Kyle Nguyen had a successful tournament finishing in second place in the 130 kg weight class.

On the women's side, Maura Martina came in third place in the 82 kg wight class while Emily Kessler placed fifth in the 55 kg class.

Wesmen Results - Saskatchewan Huskies Open


Saturday, November 24, 2012
- The Wesmen Women's Wrestling team finished in fifth place at the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Open Saturday in Saskatoon.

Invividual Results -
Stephanie Tonn 4th (63 kg), Daley Forbes 4th (72 kg), Tiffany Rorras 6th (72 kg), Maura Martina 5th (82 kg)

Wrestling Teams Open Up Season At Calgary Dinos Invitational


Fri - Sat Oct 26-27, 2012 - WESMEN Men's & Women's Teams defeated the U of C Dinos in the Friday evening Duals competitions.  Men 12-11 & Women 13-5.

WESMEN Men's & Women's Teams lost both to duals the U of A Pandas in the Friday evening Duals competitions.  Men 10-17 & Women 0-20.

-The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and women’s wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce that Daley Forbes (Port Alberni, BC) has committed to joining the Women’s Wrestling program for the start of the 2012-2013 Canada West season.

Forbes (18), a three time Canadian National Champion (2010-2012) joins the Wesmen from Alberni District Secondary School and the Alberni Valley Wrestling Club. In 2009 she captured a silver medal at the Cadet National Championships. The former British Columbia Provincial champion has won multiple Vancouver Island Championships and was named the North Peace Secondary School Most Outstanding Athlete.

“Daley Forbes is an all-star recruit from an all-star program out of Port Alberni, BC. Being a multiple time National Champion, she has a clear understanding of the level of commitment it takes to be successful at the national level. She is without a doubt one of the top recruits in the country and we are very pleased to welcome her to our program”, said Wesmen head coach Adrian Bruce.

- The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Women’s Wrestling head coach Adrian Bruce are pleased to announce the addition of four student-athletes to the Women’s Wrestling Program. Tiffani Rorras, Emily Kessler, Maura Martina and Masrine Edwards will join the Wesmen in September for the 2012-2013 Canada West Wrestling Season.

April 23, 2012 - Head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce that Stephanie Tonn has committed to the Wesmen Women’s Wrestling Program for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.

 

Tonn (19) from Barrie, Ontario joins the Wesmen after spending one year at Lakehead University. The 5’7 graduate from Barrie North Collegiate won a bronze medal at the 2010 Canada Cup. Last year she won silver at the Canadian Juvenile Championships and was the recipient of the Sports North Leadership Award. Stephanie wrestled out of the Mariposa Club team and was the 2011 Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Champion. She was named the Most Improved Female Wrestler three times and was a high school honour roll student.

“With her credentials I believe she is an athlete that will be able to step right into our program and be more than competitive. As an elite athlete and honour roll student, she is the protypical student athlete that will help form the foundation of our new wrestling program. We are very pleased to welcome her aboard”, added Bruce.
