Men's Volleyball @ Toronto  "Pre-Season"
WESMEN def Toronto  3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16,25-27, 8-15)

The Wesmen started their five match pre-season journey thru Southern Ontario with a 3-2 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16, 25-27, 8-15) win over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Wednesday night in Toronto. The Wesmen won the first three sets and soon after both teams decided to play two more sets as it is exhibition play. Toronto won the fourth set 27-25 and the fifth set 15-8. Fifth year outside Paul Kjos led the Wesmen with 11 kills. Third year middle Justin Duff made his presence felt at the net finishing the match with five blocks. Winnipeg will play the University of Guelph Gryphons in a two match series starting Thursday night.

Women's Basketball @ U of New Brunswick
WESMEN 77  UNB 59  

The Wesmen were victorious in their first of three games against the University of New Brunswick. The Wesmen defeated the Varsity Reds 77-59 Thursday night in Fredricton, New Brunswick. Caity Gooch and Amy Ogidan led the Wesmen in scoring with 15 points each. The Wesmen led at halftime 34-33 but turned it up in the second half outscoring the Varsity Reds 43-26 to secure the win. The two teams will meet Friday night in game two of the three game series.

Men's Volleyball @ Guelph 
Guelph def WESMEN 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 15-9) 

The Guelph Gryphons defeated the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 15-9) in a pre-season match Thursday night in Guelph, Ontario. First year player Chad Rempel led the Wesmen with 10 kills. The two teams will face each other Friday night in Guelph. Winnipeg will move on to play McMaster on Saturday and Sunday.

McMaster 86  WESMEN 71

The Wesmen dropped a 86-71 decision to the McMaster Maruaders in the opening game of the University of Manitoba Invitational. The game was the first pre-season action against a CIS opponent for Head Coach Dave Crook's squad. Peter Lomuro ledthe Wesmen with 20 points. Nick Lother scored 15 points and Mike James added 12 points.Winnipeg will take on Brock Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the University of Manitoba. Men's Volleyball @ Guelph 
Guelph def WESMEN 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 28-26)

The Wesmen battled hard but fell just short in a 3-2 (21-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18, 28-26) loss to the Guelph Gryphons in pre-season action Friday night in Guelph, Ontario. A pair of first year middles led the Wesmen with Danny Andres finishing with 15 kills and Maurice Williams contributing 13 kills. The Wesmen will take on McMaster in the first of two matches beginning Saturday night.

WESMEN 70  UNB 59 

The Wesmen made it two wins in a row on the east coast. Second year guard Amy Ogidan scored 29 points to lead Winnipeg to a 70-59 victory over the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Friday night i Fredricton, New Brunswick.
The victory for the Wesmen is their fifth pre-season win a row and their sixth preseason win in seven games.The two teams will wrap up their three game series Saturday night.

Men's Basketball vs Brock  At The University of  Manitoba)
WESMEN 73  Brock 75

The Brock Badgers won their second game of the University of Manitoba Invitational Tournament with a nail biting 75-73 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen. Didi Mukendi (Brock) scored a game high 30 points to lead the Badgers. Eric Zimmerman led the Wesmen in scoring with 19 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Peter Lomuro had 16 points, three assists and five steals. Brock led at halftime 38-32. Winnipeg closed the gap in the second half outscoring the Badgers 41-37. Winnipeg will now prepare for their first Canada West Regular Season game coming up this Friday against Lethbridge at 8:00 p.m. The game will be carried live on 1290 CFRW with Paul Edmonds providing the play by play and Steve Thompson adding the colour commentary.


Men's Volleyball @ McMaster  
McMaster def WESMEN 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18)

The McMaster Marauders defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18) in a pre-season match in Hamilton, Ontario Saturday  night. Paul Kjos led Winniopeg with 12 kills and three blocks. First year middle Danny Andres had a solid match with nine kills and no errors. The two teams will wrap up their two match series tomorrow afternoon.

Women's Basketball @ U of New Brunswick 
WESMEN 64  UNB 60

The Wesmen concluded their pre-season schedule with a 64-60 victory over the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Saturday night in Fredricton, New Brunswick. The victory for the Wesmen was their third straight win in as many nights against UNB. Mackenzie Prasek led Winnipeg with 14 points. The team finishes a highly succesfull preseason with a record of 9-1. Tanya McKay and her team will now head home and prepare for the beginning of the 2008-09 Canada West Regular Season. The Wesmen will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday night followed by a visit by the Calgary Dinos on Saturday night. Game times both nights is 6:00 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre.

WESMEN def McMaster 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19)

The Wesmen completed their pre-season schedule on a winning note. Winnipeg defeated the McMaster Marauders 3-1 (35-16, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19) Sunday afternoon in Hamilton, Ontario. Third year middle Justin Duff led Winnipeg with 15 kills and three blocks. Fifth year outside Paul Kjos continued his strong play finishing with 10 kills. The Wesmen finish the five match Ontario road trip with a record of 2-3. Winnipeg will have the bye this coming week and will prepare to host the Regina Cougars on Fri. Oct. 31 and Sat.Nov.1 to kick off their 2008-09 Canada West Regular Season.
