ST. PAUL’S STAR COMMITS TO MEN’S BASKETBALL PROGRAM

Thursday, April 16, 2009 – One of the top rated guards in Manitoba is joining the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. Head Coach Dave Crook is pleased to announce that Pawel Gacon from St. Paul’s High School has committed to joining the University of Winnipeg Men’s Basketball program in September.

“We are very excited that Pawel has made the decision to join the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, he is an outstanding prospect with the ability to play multiple positions and impact our team right away”, said Wesmen Head Coach Dave Crook.

A talented and quick 6’5” guard, Gacon averaged 18.3 ppg, 8.5 rebounds and seven assists for the Crusaders Varsity team this past season. He played a vital role in leading the Crusaders to the 2008-09 Milk AAAA Provincial Championships this past March and was named a tournament all-star for his efforts. Gacon was named a tournament all-star at this past season’s Winnipeg Invitational Tournament and the John Taylor Collegiate Varsity Boys Tournament. He was a member of the 17U Provincial team in 2008.

“Pawel is an exceptional kid whose versatility allows him to play a variety of positions next season, I expect him to be a great addition to the Wesmen program”, added Jeff Laping Head Coach St.Paul’s Crusaders Varsity Boy’s Basketball team.
