ASAGWARA AND SCHELLENBERG NAMED U OF W ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

Friday, March 24, 2006 - Women's basketball star Uzo Asagwara and Men's volleyball player Ben Schellenberg were named the University of Winnipeg's Male and Female Athletes of the Year at the annual Wesmen Athletics Award Banquet which was held last night at the Radisson Hotel. Other award winners included fifth year men's basketball player Phil Swart who was the recepient of the Keith Cooper Memorial Award for excellence in community service. Colin Russell, the Univrsity of Winnipeg's Academic Advising and Special Needs Services Director was honored with the Dave Anderson Award for outstanding service in the advancement of athletics.








 

TOP LOCAL RECRUITS COMMIT TO WESMEN 

Tuesday, March 21, 2006 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen today annnounced the commitment of three local recruits which will join the Wesmen next season. Nick Lother from College Jeanne Sauve will join the Men's Basketball Program and twin brother Dan, also from College Jeanne Sauve will suit up for the Men's Volleyball Team. Also joining the Wesmen family from Glenlawn Collegiate is Catie Gooch who will see action for the Women's Basketball Team.

ASAGWARA NAMED CIS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ALL-CANADIAN

Thursday, March 9, 2006 - Fourth year women's basketball player Uzo Asagwara has been named to the CIS Women's Basketball Second All-Canadian Team. This is another worthy honour as she was named a First Team Canada West Conference All-Star last week. 




ASAGWARA, TIMMERSMAN AND NASAJPOUR NAMED CANADA WEST BASKETBALL ALL-STARS

Friday, March 3, 2006 - Women's basketball players Uzo Asagwara and Stefanie Timmersman along with men's player Erfan Nasajpour have been named Canada West Basketball All-Stars. Asagwara was named to the Canada West First All-Star Team and Timmersman and Nasajpour were named to the Canada West Second All-Star Teams.

Thursday, March 2, 2006 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen is pleased to announce that Ryan DeBruyn has been named the CIS Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Year. Ben Schellenberg has been named to the CIS Men's Volleyball Second All-Canadian Team and Marlee Bragg has been named to the CIS Women's Volleyball All-Rookie Team. Nicola Dirks was an honorable mention All-Canadian.

Thursday, February 23, 2006  - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen are pleased to announce that men's volleyball player Ben Schellenberg has been named to the Canada West First All-Star Team. Jarrod Small and women's players Nicola Dirks and Kristin Brisebois were named to the Canada West Second All-Star Teams.

Thursday, February 23, 2006 - Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Volleyball player Ryan DeBruyn has been selected as the Canada West Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Year. Ryan a talented recruit from Ottawa, Ontario finished fifth in the Canada West Conference in hitting percentage with an impressive total of .416. Ryan finished third on the team with 154 kills. He was named University of Winnipeg's Male Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec.5 - Dec.11, 2005 when he had 16 kills in 23 attempts for a hitting percentage of .652.

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen is pleased to announce that third year guard Erfan Nasajpour has been selected as the CIS Male Athlete of the Week. Erfan was also named the Canada West Male Athlete of the Week on Monday.

MARLEE BRAGG NAMED CANADA WEST WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Wednesday, February 22, 2006  - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen are pleased to announce that first year women's volleyball sensation Marlee Bragg has been chosen as the Canada West Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year. Bragg started every match for the Wesmen this past season and finished fifth in the Canada West Conference with 208 kills. Marlee was named an all-star at the McGill University Invitational Tournament and was also named University of Winnipeg's Female Athlete of the Week twice.

For those of you that missed it , 1290 CFRW has carried live play by play of selected Wesmen games. They have been very popular and successful.
