SELKIRK WINS GOLD MEDAL!!!!
The 2009 University of Winnipeg High School Girl’s Volleyball Tournament took place this past Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. The tournament featured 16 of the top high school girl’s teams from across Winnipeg and Manitoba. The team from Selkirk won the gold medal defeating Oak Park 2-0 (25-17, 25-19) in the final. The Royals captured there sixth U of W Tournament win in the past seven years. Vincent Massey (Brandon) won the bronze medal defeating Westwood 2-0. Alley Sawatzky (Selkirk) was named the tournament MVP.

Canada's National Women's Volleyball Coach Arnd Ludwig and Winnipeg native and three time CIS Championship Champion coach Doug Reimer will be the feature presenters at the 2009 University of Winnipeg Volleyball Coaching Seminar. Registrations for the 29th Annual Seminar, which will take place at the Duckworth Centre on Friday September 18, 2009 are being accepted now. Registration forms are available at www.wesmen.ca

COMMUNITY NEWS
The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Summer Camps was held again this past summer. Over 700 participants took part in week long basketball and volleyball sessions during the months of July and August.
The Wesmen were pleased to coordinate special camp sessions for community groups during the summer. Members of the Spence Street Neighborhood Association, Big Brothers and Sisters, and the Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre took part.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Larry McKay entering his 21st season with the Wesmen is putting his team thru training camp in preparation for the upcoming 2009-2010 Canada West season. McKay had a busy off season adding seven recruits to his team. The team will be seeking their fourth straight appearance in the CIS Men’s Volleyball Championships. The team will hit the court for their annual Intrasquad match on Tue, Sept 22nd and take on the Alumni on Wed, Sept 30th.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach and former Wesmen standout Diane Scott entering her 15th season, is currently conducting the teams training camp in preparation for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Coach Scott has assembled an impressive roster with a good mixture of returning players and eight first year players who will be looking to make an impact this season. The team will take part in the annual Intrasquad match on Tue, Sept 22 followed by the annual match against the Alumni on Wed, Sept 30th.

Dave Crook, entering his ninth season with the Wesmen is currently putting his squad thru the early stages of practice. The team will feature a strong nucleus of returning players and three impressive recruits who will look to make an impact this coming season. The team will participate in the annual Intrasquad game next Wednesday (Sept 23) and will take on the Men’s Basketball Alumni Team Tue, Sept 29th.

Head Coach and former Wesmen great Tanya McKay, entering her 14th season, is putting her team thru its daily practices in preparation for the 2009-2010 season. Coach McKay will enter the season with a very strong roster of returning veterans to go along with three impressive recruits. The team will hit the court in the annual Intrasquad game next Wednesday (Sept 23) followed by the Alumni game on Tue, Sept 29th.
