Alan Ahow, men’s volleyball
Alan, fifth year outside competed in his third straight CIS Men’s Volleyball Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. In Saturday’s consolation semi final against Thompson Rivers, Ahow was named the Wesmen Player of the Game after registering seven kills, three digs and one block.

WESMEN IN THE COMMUNITY
The Aboriginal Students Association will be putting on POW WOW 2009 at the Duckworth Centre on Friday, March 6th. Activities will be on going throughout the day.
The 11th Annual WMBA Hoopfest is set for Saturday, March 14th at the Duckworth Centre. HoopFest is an interactive skills competition for boys and girls ages 5-11 and features eight different stations testing a player’s abilities to pass, shoot and dribble. MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The Winnipeg Wesmen Men’s Volleyball Team was one of eight teams to participate at the CIS Men’s Volleyball National Championships at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. The Wesmen entered the Nationals seeded seventh and faced the second seed Laval in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. The Wesmen put up a good fight but were defeated 3-0 ( 25-23, 25-22, 25-20). Canada West All-Star Andrew Town led the Wesmen with 14 kills. Third year middle Justin Duff had 11 kills and three blocks. Duff was named the Wesmen Player of the Match for his efforts. The loss pushed the Wesmen to the consolation side where they met the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack on Saturday. The Wolfpack came away with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) victory over the Wesmen. Andrew Town led the Wesmen with 11 kills. Wesmen Player of the Game Alan Ahow finished with seven kills and three digs. Paul Kjos and Chad Rempel led the team with five digs each. Kjos had two blocks to lead Winnipeg. Ahow was selected as the CIS recipient of the Dale Iwanoczko Award. The recipient exhibits outstanding achievement in volleyball, academics and community involvement.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
First year LS/RS Ariel Smith was named to the CIS Women’s Volleyball All-Rookie Team at the CIS Women’s Volleyball Championships in Fredricton, New Brunswick. Smith led the team in service aces (16), defensive digs (202) and placed second on the team in kills (161) and points (187.5).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Dave Crook and his team had there season come to an end two weeks ago in the Great Plains Division Semi-Final against Regina. Coach Crook will start to prepare for the 2009-2010 season starting in September.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Third year guard Catie Gooch was named to the Canada West Second All-Star Team for the second consecutive year. Gooch finished in the Canada West Conference top ten in several categories including: 7th in scoring (12.9 ppg), 3rd in free-throw percentage (50-of-58 -86%) , 5th in steals (2.5 spg), 4th in three point shots made (44), 6th in three-point fg % (.373) and 3rd in minutes played per game (32.6 mpg).
