Andrew Town, men's volleyball
Andrew continued his stellar play at this past weekend’s Canada West Final Four in Edmonton. In Saturday’s bronze medal match against Thompson Rivers, Town finished with 14 kills, four defensive digs and a service ace in three close games against the Wolfpack.

• Named to the Canada West Men’s Volleyball First All-Star Team
Jessica Stromberg, women's basketball
Jessica put everything on the line for her team at this past week’s Great Plains Division Final in Regina against the Cougars. In game two on Friday night Jessica scored a team high 15 points and was solid on the boards with seven rebounds in 38 minutes of playing time.

• 14 rebounds
• Averaged 37 minutes of playing time per game
• Placed fourth in the Canada West Conference during the regular season with 8.5 rebounds per game.
GENERAL WESMEN NEWS
The Men’s Volleyball Team is heading to the CIS Men’s Volleyball Championships in Edmonton, Alberta from Feb 27 – March 1. All main-bracket games from the 2009 championship will be available through a video web cast (quarter-finals, semi-finals, bronze, final). Sunday's bronze and gold-medal (6 p.m. MT) matches will be televised locally on Shaw. WESMEN IN THE COMMUNITY
Congratulations to the organizers and participants of the inaugural Heart of the Community Basketball Tournament. The Grade 8 Team Mayhem defeated the Grade 7 Team Mayhem in the boy’s draw. Anishinabe Pride defeated Tuxedo in the girl’s draw.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Larry McKay and his team finished in fourth place at the Canada West Final Four in Edmonton this past weekend. In Friday’s opening match the Wesmen were defeated 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-17) by the top ranked Alberta Golden Bears. Canada West First Team All-Star Andrew Town led Winnipeg with 12 kills and two service aces. Dan Lother had a team high six digs. On Saturday night Winnipeg played Thompson Rivers University in the bronze medal match. Winnipeg was defeated 3-0 (28-26, 25-23, 31-29) by the Wolfpack in three tough sets. Andrew Town led Winnipeg with 14 kills. Justin Duff followed with 11 kills (.625 attack percentage). Alan Ahow had 10 kills and six digs and middle blocker Danny Andres had four blocks. The team will head into this weekend’s CIS Men’s Volleyball Championships as the number seven seed and will take on the number two seed, Laval in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Head Coach Tanya McKay and her team were in Regina for the best of three Great Plains Division Final against the Regina Cougars. In Thursday’s opening game, Winnipeg struggled in a 64-45 game one loss. Winnipeg was led by Caity Gooch who scored a game high 19 points, including three-three pointers. Jessica Stromberg finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Game two took place on Friday night and the Cougars defeated the Wesmen 60-59 to win the best of three series 2-0. Jessica Stromberg led the Wesmen with a game high 15 points. Amy Ogidan had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Randie Gibson finished with 12 points.
