Andrew Town, men’s volleyball
Andrew led the Wesmen to a sweep of both matches against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. He came up big at key times all weekend with 20 kills Friday and 23 kills Saturday.

Marlee Bragg, women’s volleyball
Marlee stepped up her performance on Saturday and was instrumental in keeping the Wesmen in the match in Saturday’s thrilling 5 set match against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

• 11 defensive digs
• four blocks
 
• Match high 20 kills, nine digs and three blocks in Saturday’s match.

Wesmen Classic News Conference Monday, December 1st…..
All the details about the 42nd Annual Wesmen Classic will be revealed at a news conference on Mon, Dec 1, 2008. The conference will take place at 12:30 p.m. Duckworth Centre, second floor lounge.

42nd Annual Wesmen Classic Coming Soon…..
The 42nd Annual Wesmen Classic will be taking place on Dec.27-30 at the Duckworth Centre. Tournament passes are available at Duckworth Customer Service Centre for only $20.00. For more information or to purchase your tickets by phone please call 786-9349.

The Jr.Wesmen Grade Nine Girl’s Basketball teams had some positive results recently.  The Jr. Wesmen “black” team finished third overall and the Jr. Wesmen “red” team finished fifth overall at the recent Jr.Wesmen Basketball Tournament.


WESMEN IN THE COMMUNITY

Wesmen Volleyball Head Coaches Diane Scott and Larry McKay will be special presenters at the Grade 8 Pembina Trails School Division Volleyball League Championship matches this evening at Acadia Junior High School.


MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The men’s team had a successful weekend beating the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in both matches at the Duckworth Centre. In Friday’s opening match the Wesmen beat the WolfPack 3-2 (25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-11) in five tough sets. Andrew Town led the Wesmen with 23 kills. Paul Kjos added 17 kills and 13 defensive digs. Alan Ahow had a strong match contributing 14 kills and 13 digs to the win. Justin Duff led the team with four blocks. Libero Chad Rempel led the team with a match high 16 digs. In Saturday’s match the Wesmen completed the weekend sweep with a dramatic 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 31-29) victory. Andrew Town paced Winnipeg with a match high 20 kills. Paul Kjos had a strong match finishing with 15 kills. Alan Ahow had 13 kills to go along with 13 defensive digs. Middle blockers Maurice Williams and Justin Duff each had four blocks. Winnipeg will head into the break with a record of 6-2 and in second place in the Canada West Conference. The team’s next action is January 8, 2009 against the Brandon Bobcats in Brandon.


WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The women’s team hosted the Thompson Rivers WolfPack for a pair of matches at the Duckworth Centre. In Friday’s opening match the WolfPack defeated the Wesmen 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-17). The Wesmen were led by Ariel Smith’s team high 11 kills, 11 defensive digs and three service aces. Marlee Bragg finished the match with nine kills. On Saturday night the Wesmen came back from a 0-2 deficit but lost a 3-2 (25-16, 25-16, 21-25, 15-25, 15-9) match to the WollfPack. Marlee Bragg led the Wesmen with a match high 20 kills. Ariel Smith finished with 12 kills and a team leading 18 defensive digs. Lauren Sears was the top blocker with five blocks. The Wesmen currently sit with a record of 1-7. Winnipeg will close out the first half the season with a visit to Simon Fraser (1-9) on Saturday and Sunday for two matches. Match time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (Wpg Time).


MEN’S BASKETBALL

The men’s team had the bye in their Canada West regular season schedule this past week. The team currently has a record of 2-6 and will close out the first half of the schedule with two road games this week. The Wesmen will travel to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Golden Bears (3-5) on Friday night and the next night takes on the Sakatchewan Huskies (2-6) in Saskatoon.


WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The women’s team had the bye this past week in their regular season schedule. The Wesmen currently have a record of 6-2 and sit in second place in the Great Plains Division.  The Wesmen will travel to Edmonton to take on the Alberta Pandas (5-3) on Friday night and the next night take on the Saskatchewan Huskies (6-2) in Saskatoon.
