WESMEN GONDOLA PIZZA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Catie Gooch, women’s basketball - Catie scored 23 points to lead the Wesmen to a 67-61 victory over Manitoba at this past Saturday nights 18th Annual Duckworth Challenge.
• 39 points, eight assists, 17 rebounds, six-three pointers in two games against Manitoba.
• Wesmen Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game.
• 23 points, 10 rebounds to lead the Wesmen to a 67-61 victory over the Bisons in the 18th Annual Duckworth Challenge.
Nick Lother, men’s basketball - Nick scored a game high 28 points to lead the Wesmen to a 73-64 victory over Manitoba in the 18th Annual Duckworth Challenge.
• 46 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, four-three pointers in two games against Manitoba.
• Wesmen Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game.
• 28 points, four rebounds, three assist, in a 73-64 victory over the Bisons Saturday night.

WESMEN IN THE COMMUNITY
• The Women's Basketball Program conducted a special basketball camp this past Tuesday for boy’s and girl’s players aged 5-12. The camp was well attended and many kids enjoyed the experience at the Duckworth Centre.
• The Winnipeg Wesmen recently purchased basketball uniforms for teams involved in the Spence Neighborhood Association and Magnus Eliason Community Club. The teams wore the uniforms for the first time this past weekend.
• Two members of the men’s basketball team do some volunteer coaching in their spare time: Eric Zimmerman (Sturgeon Heights JV Team and the Redeem Team (Club Team), Tyler Kohut (Winnipeg Wolves, Club Team)
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The women’s team played a home and home series against their cross town rivals, the Manitoba Bosons this past week. On Thursday night at the U of M, the Bosons defeated the Wesmen 66-58. Caity Gooch led Winnipeg with a game high 16 points. Jessica Stromberg finished with a double-double 13 points and 11 rebounds. Alex MacIver contributed 10 points. Saturday night the basketball portion of the 18th Annual Duckworth Challenge took place at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen came from behind to defeat the Bisons 67-61. Caity Gooch led Winnipeg with 23 points, including five-three pointers, 10 rebounds and four assists. Alex MacIver had her best game of her Wesmen career scoring 20 points and hauling down 10 rebounds. Gooch was named the Wesmen Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game. The Wesmen will head into a bye week with a record of 6-2 and in first place in the Great Plains Division. Winnipeg will next see action on Nov 28 and 29 with visits to Alberta and Saskatchewan.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The men’s team saw action this past week against the Manitoba Bisons in a big home and home series. In Thursday’s game at the U of M, the Wesmen were defeated 90-78 by a hot shooting Bison team that connected for 16-three pointers. Nick Lother led Winnipeg with 18 points. Mike James and Peter Lomuro finished with 17 points each. James was Winnipeg's top rebounder with seven boards. The Wesmen got their revenge on home court Saturday night with an impressive 73-64 victory in the Duckworth Challenge. Nick Lother led Winnipeg with a game high 28 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Peter Lomuro finished with 18 points and three steals. Jeff Shynkaryk led Winnipeg in rebounding with 12. Lother was named the Wesmen Duckworth Challenge Player of the Game. Winnipeg improves to 2-6 on the regular season and will have the bye next weekend and will return to action on the road on Nov 28-29 in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The men’s team was on the road in Langley, British Columbia for a pair of matches against a tough opponent, the Trinity Western University Spartans. The Wesmen lost the opening match on Friday night 3-1 (16-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-18). Andrew Town and Justin Duff led the Wesmen with 11 kills each. Duff also had three blocks to his credit. Alan Ahow led the way in digs with nine. On Saturday the Spartans pulled out a tough 3-1 (25-19, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23) victory. Andrew Town had 15 kills to lead the team. Alan Ahow once again led the Wesmen with seven digs. Town and Danny Andres had three blocks each. Winnipeg now sports a record of 4-2 and will host Thompson Rivers on Friday and Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Diane Scott and her team were on the road in British Columbia for a pair of matches against the Trinity Western University Spartans. The Wesmen were defeated in Friday’s match 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17). Middle Lauren Sears led the team in kills with eight. Ariel Smith finished the match with 11 digs and Marlee Bragg had three blocks. Winnipeg played better in Saturday’s match but suffered a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) loss. Marlee Bragg led Winnipeg with eight kills. Libero Devyn DeGagne finished with 12 defensive digs. Lauren Sears had three blocks. The team’s record now sits at 1-5. Winnipeg will host Thompson Rivers for a weekend series on Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre.
