Peter was one of the most consistent Wesmen players during a two game road trip against Alberta and Saskatchewan. Peter played 40 minutes each game with the highlight being scoring a season high 23 points on Friday night against Alberta.

Alex was one of the hardest working Wesmen during a tough two game road trip against Alberta and Saskatchewan. Alex scored a team high 14 points and added seven rebounds Saturday night against Saskatchewan.

The 2008 Wesmen Classic season is upon us. It’s a Winnipeg Christmas tradition. For all the tournament information including draws and results from the Winnipeg Free Press Community Classic, International Classic, Flanders High School Girl’s Classic, Converse Junior Varsity Classic and the Wesmen Classic (high school and university), please go to www.wesmen.ca
The 42nd Annual Wesmen Classic will be taking place from December 27-30 at the Duckworth Centre. The tournament will feature eight of the top men’s high school teams in Winnipeg and eight teams from Canadian Universities including our very own Winnipeg Wesmen. WESMEN IN THE COMMUNITY
The Winnipeg Free Press Community Classic begins this evening at the Duckworth Centre. The tournament will feature 24 boys and girls teams ranging in age from 11-14 years of age. The finals and third place games for all divisions will be played on Thursday, December 4th at the Duckworth Centre.
Bob Axworthy, brother of University of Winnipeg President Lloyd Axworthy is the Head Coach of the Magnus Eliason Jr. Wesmen 13-14 girl’s team that will be participating in the Winnipeg Free Press Community Classic.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The women’s team ended their first half schedule with a pair of road losses against Alberta and Saskatchewan. On Friday night against Alberta the Wesmen were defeated 92-47. Amy Ogidan scored 14 points and Alex MacIver pulled down seven rebounds. On Saturday the Wesmen suffered their second consecutive loss. The Saskatchewan Huskies defeated the Wesmen 89-59. Alex MacIver led the Wesmen with 14 points. The team will take a 6-4 record into the break. The Wesmen will travel to England for a pair of exhibition games against Division one teams from England before resuming their Canada West regular season schedule on January 4th when they host the University of Manitoba Bisons.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The men’s team completed their first half Canada West regular season schedule with a pair of games on the road in Alberta and Saskatchewan. On Thursday in Edmonton, the Golden Bears defeated the Wesmen 94-83. Nick Lother led the Wesmen with 24 points and Peter Lomuro added 23 points and eight rebounds. On Saturday night in Saskatoon, the Huskies defeated the Wesmen 91-71. Nick Lother scored 20 points. Peter Lomuro added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. The Wesmen will head to the Christmas break with a 2-8 record. The team will next see action at the end of December in the 42nd Annual Wesmen Classic.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Head Coach Diane Scott and her team were on the road in Simon Fraser for a pair of matches. In Saturday’s opening match the Wesmen were defeated 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 25-17). Ariel Smith and Lauren Sears led the Wesmen with 12 kills and Tessa Peterson was the leader on defense with 22 digs. On Saturday the team suffered their second straight loss of the weekend by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19). Leah Brezinski had seven kills and five blocks to lead the team. The pair of losses drops the team’s record to 1-9. The team will now break until January 2nd when they travel to Toronto to participate in the University of Toronto Invitational Tournament. The team will resume their Canada West regular season schedule on January 8th in Brandon.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
The men’s team is currently enjoying the holiday break as their first half Canada West regular season schedule is complete. The team has an impressive 6-2 record and sit in third place in the tough Canada West standings. The team will travel to Brandon to kick off their second half schedule on January 8th.
