Men's Volleyball Staff
Wesmen Men's Volleyball Staff 2012
Dan LotherDan works with the setters. He played 5 years for the Wesmen. He is finishing his second degree. He helps coach at College Jeanne Sauve.While a student at CJS Dan was a member of 3 consecutive Provincial Championship volleyball teams.He also won a CIS Championship with the Wesmen in 2007. In 2008 he was a CIS silver medalist. In 2009 he was a part of the Wesmen team that upset #2 ranked Calgary in a best of 3 playoff series in Calgary to qualify for the CIS Championships. He won his first National Championship in Grade 10 with the Winnipeg strike 18U team.
Rob Sveinson
Rob began with the Wesmen in 2008. A teacher at the University of Winnipeg Collegiate, Rob has had success as a player and a coach. He was part of the staff of Manitobas gold medal winning Canada Games team in 2005. Rob was a member of two national championship winning teams with the U of M Bisons .
Daryl Ford
Daryl has worked with Larry McKay as a mentor for many years. He recently retired from his position at Glenboro Collegiate where he had great success as a volleyball coach. In 2010 Daryl began two years as the coach for Lakeland College in the ACAC.
Brent Corrigan
Brent recently completed his teaching/administration career at College Sturgeon Heights Collegiate retiring as their Principal. An accomplished, successful basketball coach for many years, Brent has roots as a student at The University of Winnipeg. He has returned as an instructor in the Faculty of Education. In addition to mentoring Larry McKay for many years, Brent has taken on counseling a few of the team members this season as well.
Dustin Addison-Schneider
Dustin finished his university career as a Wesmen in 2008 with a silver medal. In 2007 he was part of the team that won gold. He began with the Strike 18U team when he was in grade 12 and won his first National Championship. He followed that up with another national championship two years later at the Junior level. Since finishing with university Dustin has moved up to the National Team. Most recently at the NORCECA Championship in 2011 Dustin was selected as the best setter. He has played professionally for the last 4 years. He recently coached the team in Kingston at the Queens University tournament.
Trevor Shaw
Trevors career mirrored Dustins up to 2007. After winning the CIS Championship Trevor completed his first degree and went traveling in the Far East. Upon returning he embarked on a masters program which he completed at UBC, in Economics. He now works in Ottawa for the Federal Government. Trevor coached while with the Wesmen and won a silver medal at the 2006 Junior Nationals. Trevor coached the team at the Queens tournament along with Dustin.
Marshall Jones
Marshalls career has been identical to Trevor. In 2008 he began working at Brandon University while completing his Education Degree. He now teaches at Vincent Massey Collegiate here in Winnipeg. Marshall coached the team when they played versus Brandon October 18.
Fred Gutoski
An Olympian Decathlete (1976-1980) Fred has an extensive distinguished background in teaching and athletics. A scientist and researcher he has embarked on a training mission with our program. Beginning in 2007 Fred began working with the athletes on juggling. He has now included handstands and flexibility. The players have benefited greatly from Freds expertise in training. Fred believes in the overall complete development of an athlete. Juggling develops kin-esthetic awareness that has also been scientifically proven to increase brain function.
