MATT STUBLER COMMITS TO MEN’S VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 – The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the commitment of Miles MacDonnell’s Matt Stubler to the Men’s Volleyball program for the 2009-2010 season.

Stubler, a powerful 6’4” left side player and “A” average student was a member of the Buckeyes squad that captured the 2008 Provincial AAAA High School Championship where his all round play earned him the Most Valuable Player award. In 2008 Matt was named to the All-Manitoba Team as well as a Manitoba Volleyball Association Graduating All-Star. This past summer Matt was a member of Team Manitoba that won a bronze medal at the National Team Challenge Cup in Longueuil, Quebec. In 2007 he was a member of Team Manitoba that won the gold medal at the Western Canada Summer Games.

"Matt has been a top player in his age category since he began playing.  Following his older brother Jeremy, Matt continues the Stubler family history of excellence in volleyball.  He is a strong student who has the ability to play university volleyball immediately. Along with Devin Schmidt, Kenny McKenzie and fellow Miles Mac teammate Matt Schriemer, Matt Stubler will be part of a strong young homegrown group of student-athletes in our program that all have their origin here in Manitoba,” added Wesmen Head Coach Larry McKay.
