Tuesday, May 6, 2008 – The Jr. Wesmen Girl’s 17U volleyball team won the gold medal in their division at the National Championships held in Ottawa, Ontario this past weekend.

The 17U team finished in first place in tier one division 2. The team finished in ninth place overall out of the 64 team field.

The team coached by Craig McKenzie, Miyuki Kuroiwa and Diane Scott defeated the Westwood Warriors in the final match. The team recently won the gold medal at the 1st Annual Jr. Wesmen Girl’s Volleyball Invitational Tournament two weeks ago.

"We are extremely pleased with the effort and play of our young 17U Jr Wesmen team this weekend. They played hard, improved with each match and finished with a gold medal win! Craig McKenzie and Miyuki Kuroiwa, along with Annie Levesque deserve a great deal of credit for the development of these young women, they have improved so much over these 4.5 months of training and competing under their guidance! I am just so proud, said Diane Scott.

Note: Winnipeg Wesmen women’s volleyball recruit Amanda Bakker finished in fourth place overall as a member of the Cobras Volleyball Club Team that participated in the 18U category. The Selkirk Royals coached by Rick Scott finished in first place in the 18U Tier 1 Championship.
