Jr. Wesmen Girl's Basketball - Spring Update

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 - The Jr. Wesmen teams (Team Cassie Grade 10/11 & Team Alyssa Grade 12) have kicked off their seasons beginning with the Grand Am Tournament in Grand Forks, ND at the end of March. As usual, the level of play is challenging but the Grade 12 team made it into the Consolation final - not a bad showing!

WMBA league play is underway with both teams participating (Rising Stars and Senior Women). Team Cassie will participate in the Heart of the City tournament May 5 and both teams will play in the Basketball Manitoba Club Championships the weekend after.

To close out the Spring season Team Alyssa will be traveling to Menomonie, WI for the Memorial Day Classic.

Wednesday, March 14, 2012 – As school basketball season winds down with AAAA Provincials being held at U of W Duckworth, the Jr. Wesmen girls high school program is starting to ramp up. Team Cassie (coached by Cassie Siemens, assisted by Ray Houssin) is a Grade 10/11 team and roster players Rebecca, Ally, Kate, Hannah, Mary-Mac, Preslie, Katrina, Ana, Abby, and Jenna have now been joined by two strong players from the Vincent Massey (VMC) varsity team – Kendra and Genevieve. The team says “so long” to great player Cassidy who is going to pursue field hockey this spring.

The Grade 12 team will now be coached by our “own” - Wesmen player Alyssa Grant and assisted by Holly Kitchen. We bid farewell to players Reanna, Alexa and Megan but welcome new players Kierra (VMC), Ness (Linden Christian) and welcome back Kelcey (Warren Collegiate).

The teams will kick off the Spring Club season with the Grand Am tournament in Grand Forks in March, 2012 and U of W College team coach and former Gr. 12 coach Suki Chhoeun will be joining Team Cassie to assist with coaching. Both teams will play in local tournaments, and Team Cassie will participate in the WMBA Rising Stars Spring league and Team Alyssa will play in the WMBA Senior Women’s League. Both teams plan to travel to Menomonie, WI for tournament play in May, 2012.

Jr.Wesmen Girl's Basketball Prepare For Spring Season

Thursday, November 10, 2011 - In September of this year the Jr. Wesmen girls high school program came on strong with two teams in addition to the Inner-city program. Team Cassie (coached by Cassie Siemens assisted by Ray Houssin) is a Grade 10/11 team and roster players are Rebecca, Ally, Kate, Hannah, Mary-Mac, Preslie, Katrina, Ana, Abby, Cassidy and Jenna. Team Suki (coached by Suki Chhoeun assisted by Mel Schlichter) is a Grade 12 team and roster players are Reanna, Megan, Emily, Kianna, Kara, Alexa, Jaime, Rachael, Maggie, Madi and Mary.

Both teams played in the Magic charity tournament in October and Team Suki travelled to Minneapolis, MN to participate in some exhibition play in a fantastic southside Minneapolis venue (Colin Powell Center) and also played in the Minnesota Youth Fall league. As well Team Suki played an exhibition game against the Wesmen College women with a few senior women thrown into the mix (including Coach Mel!)

The teams will kick off the Spring Club season with the Grand Am tournament in Grand Forks in March, 2012 following the school season. Both teams will play in local tournaments, and Team Cassie will participate in the WMBA Rising Stars Spring league. Both teams hope to travel to Menomonie, WI for tournament play in May, 2012.

Jr. Wesmen Juvenile Girls Basketball - Grand Am Tournament (Grand Forks, ND)

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 - The Junior Wesmen Juvenile Girls Basketball will officially kick off their season with the Grand Am Tournament in Grand Forks next week, April 1-3^rd, 2011 and from there it’s straight into the Rising Star league! Team tryouts were performed in the fall of 2010 and from there the team was officially formed with a light practice schedule through the school season, a tournament and exhibition games with our sister team the Inner City Junior Wesmen Girls. �We have a new addition to our roster and would like to extend a sincere welcome to Katrina H who recently joined the team and brings many years of experience!
