LAST CHANCE TO WIN A TRIP TO VEGAS
Attention all Wesmen fans .how does a trip to Las Vegas sound, well it is possible. The Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with Out n About Travel is giving away a weekend trip to Las Vegas. The draw will be made on Thursday, February during halftime of the Mens basketball game against Manitoba. Draw ballots are available at the Duckworth Customer Service Centre and on Thursday evening. Each ballot cost $2.00 with all proceeds going towards the University of Winnipegs Athletic Scholarship Fund. All entrants receive a ticket to the game and all entrants must be in attendance to win.
WESMEN TO HONOUR 5TH YEAR PLAYERS
The final weekend of the 2009-2010 Canada West regular season will come to a close for all four Wesmen teams at the Duckworth Centre. On Thursday night the Mens and Womens Basketball Teams will host their cross-town rivals the Manitoba Bisons. It is a special night for two members of the Womens Basketball Team. Fifth year players and team captains Jessica Stromberg and Randie Gibson will be honored in a special post game ceremony. The Mens and Womens Volleyball Teams will wrap up their regular season with matches against the Calgary Dinos on Friday and Saturday. Mens Volleyball fifth year member and team captain Andrew Town will be honored following the match on Saturday evening.

All four Wesmen teams saw action this past week both at the Duckworth Centre and on the road. The Wesmen Volleyball Teams each played three matches in a four day span against the Manitoba Bisons, last Wednesday night at the U of M and played host to the Regina Cougars on the weekend. The Wesmen Basketball Teams traveled to Regina to take on the Regina Cougars for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.
Across town at the U of M last Wednesday night, the Womens Volleyball Team was defeated 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-19). Lauren Sears led the Wesmen with 13 kills and five blocks. In the mens match, the Wesmen recovered from a slow start to defeat the Bisons 3-1 (13-25, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24). Andrew Town led the Wesmen 14 kills. Matt Schriemer was next with 12 kills and six blocks.
The Volleyball teams returned to the Duckworth Centre on Friday night to open a two match series against Regina. In the Womens match, the Wesmen came back from an 0-2 deficit and fell inches short in a tough 3-2 (25-20, 25-15, 18-25, 22-25, 16-14) loss. Lauren Sears finished with a match high 19 kills. Ariel Smith had 12 kills and three service aces. The Mens Volleyball Team extended their current winning streak to eight with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-22) victory. Marc Ross finished with a match high 15 kills. Dan Lother finished with 32 assists and four service aces. On the road in Regina, the Womens Basketball Team fell short in a 68-59 loss to the Cougars. Amy Ogidan led the team with a game high 20 points. In the Mens game, the Wesmen put on their best offensive display of the season in a tough 94-86 loss. Peter Lomuro and Eric Zimmerman each scored career highs 29 and 26 points respectively.
The action continued against the Cougars on Saturday night. The Mens Volleyball Team completed a weekend sweep and extended their current winning streak to nine with an impressive 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-19) win. Marc Ross led the Wesmen with 10 kills. Andrew Town added nine. Dan Lother had 20 assists. The Womens match went five sets for the second night in a row. The Cougars beat a determined Wesmen team 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 15-11). Ariel Smith had a strong match finishing with 17 kills and 25 digs. Lauren Sears had another strong outing with 15 kills and four blocks. In Regina, the Womens Basketball Team were defeated 62-51. Jessica Stromberg led the team with 13 points. In the late Mens game, the Cougars upended the Wesmen 98-79. Nick Lother led the Wesmen with 25 points.

WESMEN PARTICIPATING IN I LOVE TO READ MONTH
February is I Love to Read month across Winnipeg and during the next few weeks several members of the Wesmen Teams will be Special Guest Readers in the classrooms of local schools to read stories to students.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Dan Lother, mens volleyball Lother, fourth year middle played a huge part in leading the Wesmen to three victories this past week. He was at his best in last Wednesdays victory over Manitoba. Dan finished the match with 41 assists, four kills, two service aces and seven digs.

Lauren Sears, womens volleyball Sears, third year middle was impressive in the teams three matches this past week against Manitoba and Regina. In Fridays tough five set match, Sears had a match high 19 kills and followed that up the next night with 15 kills and four blocks performance.
