ALL FOUR WESMEN TEAMS HOME FOR SUPER WEEKEND
This coming weekend all four Wesmen teams will be in action at the Duckworth Centre. The action begins on Friday night as the Wesmen basketball teams take on the UBC Thunderbirds. Game times are 6:00 p.m. (women) and 8:00 p.m. (men). The men’s game will broadcast live on 1290 CFRW with Paul Edmonds handling the play by play action and Steve Thompson adding the color commentary. On Saturday, a rare quadruple header will take place at the Duckworth Centre. The Wesmen volleyball teams kick off the busy day with matches against Thompson Rivers University. Match times is 1:00 p.m. (women) and 3:00 p.m. (men). Later that same evening the Wesmen basketball teams will be in action against the Victoria Vikes. Game times are 6:00 p.m. (women) and 8:00 p.m. (men). The busy weekend of Wesmen action wraps up on Sunday afternoon with the Wesmen volleyball teams ending their weekend series against Thompson Rivers. The action begins at 1:00 p.m. (women) followed by the men’s match at 3:00 p.m.  

WESMEN VS BOBCATS RECAP
The Wesmen basketball teams challenged their cross provincial rivals the Brandon Bobcats this past Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. On Friday night the women’s team defeated Brandon 72-58 with Catie Gooch leading the way with a game high 24 points. In the late game the men’s team put up a fight in an 80-75 loss to the Bobcats. Nick Lother led the team with 22 points. The women’s team completed a weekend sweep on Saturday night with a    win. Catie Gooch led the Wesmen with 25 points. On the men’s side the Bobcats needed overtime to edge the Wesmen 83-76. Nick Lother led the team with 17 points. The Wesmen volleyball teams were on the road in Brandon for a pair of matches against the Bobcats. In Friday’s opening match, the Bobcats defeated the Wesmen 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20). Sonia Rossy led the team with 13 kills and 17 digs. In the late match that evening the men’s team dropped a 3-0 (25 -17, 25-21, 25-15) decision to the Bobcats. Andrew Town led  the Wesmen with nine kills.              In the series finale on Saturday night both teams gave the Bobcats all they could handle but fell short. The women’s team lost a thrilling five set match 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 15-7). Ariel Smith led the team with 14 kills and 23 digs. In the men’s match the Bobcats defeated the Wesmen 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20). Andrew Town led the team with 17 kills.

INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC FOR CLUB TEAMS…REGISTER NOW

For the sixth consecutive year the International Classic will play host to the event of the year for "Club" basketball teams. Dual hosts, the The Jr Wesmen and Manitoba Magic basketball clubs, are encouraging all boys and girls teams from age 8 - 17 to register now for this prestigious tournament. DIG, SET, SERVE, PASS, SPIKE VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CLINICS
Volleyball skills clinics for girls and boys, grades 7-12 are being offered at the University of Winnipeg from October through December. Naoki Miyashita, former Head Coach of the Canadian Women's National Team and current Wesmen Assistant Coach will be the instructor. Ryan Willerton, men’s basketball – Willerton, third year post was a huge factor in Saturday’s overtime game against the Brandon Bobcats. Willerton, came up with two block shots in the final minutes of regulation time and went on to score the tying basket with seven seconds left to force overtime.

•     Six rebounds
•      Scored the tying basket with seven seconds left to force overtime on Saturday

Catie Gooch, women’s basketball
– Gooch, in her fourth season led the Wesmen to a pair of victories over the Brandon Bobcats. On Friday night Gooch scored a game high 24 points and followed that up the next night with a 25 point performance.

•     Eight rebounds, Five assists
•     Second in Canada West scoring averaging 20.0 points per game
