WESMEN VS BOBCATS THIS WEEKEND
The Wesmen Basketball teams will resume their Canada West regular season schedules against the Brandon University Bobcats on Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. A “Spirit Bash” will take place on Friday night from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m (2nf floor Duckworth Centre). The festivities will feature DJ K.Mack, crazy prizes and drink specials. Tickets are only $8.00 and include admission to the Wesmen-Bobcat games that evening. Tickets are available at the Duckworth Customer Service Desk. Game times is 6:00 p.m. (women’s) and 8:00 (men’s). 1290 CFRW will broadcast the men’s games on both nights with Paul Edmonds providing the play by play and Steve Thompson adding the color commentary. The Wesmen Volleyball teams will also be taking on their provincial rivals, the Brandon University Bobcats on the road in Brandon this Friday and Saturday nights. Match times both nights is 6:00 p.m. (women’s) and 8:00 p.m. (men’s). 

WESMEN VS BISONS RECAP
The Wesmen volleyball teams challenged their cross town rivals the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night at the Duckworth Centre. Head Coach Diane Scott and her vastly improved team gave Manitoba all they could handle in a 3-0 (26-24, 29-27, 25-20) loss. Ariel Smith led the team with 11 kills, 15 defensive digs. Lauren Sears and Sonia Rossy added nine kills. On the men’s side the Wesmen put up a great effort in a 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15) loss to the Bisons in a battle of two-top 10 teams. Justin Duff led the Wesmen with 14 kills and four blocks. Andrew Town added 12 kills. Dan Lother was solid with 43 assists, 14 digs and two blocks. The Wesmen basketball teams traveled across town to take on their rivals, the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday night. On the women’s side the Wesmen fell short in a 67-57 loss to the Bisons. Amy Ogidan led the Wesmen with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Randie Gibson added 12. In the men’s game later that evening the Bisons came away with a 92-79 victory over the Wesmen. Nick Lother led the Wesmen with 22 points and seven assists. Peter Lomuro added 18 points.

INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC FOR CLUB TEAMS…REGISTER NOW

For the sixth consecutive year the International Classic will play host to the event of the year for "Club" basketball teams. Dual hosts, the The Jr Wesmen and Manitoba Magic basketball clubs, are encouraging all boys and girls teams from age 8 - 17 to register now for this prestigious tournament. DIG, SET, SERVE, PASS, SPIKE VOLLEYBALL SKILLS CLINICS

Volleyball skills clinics for girls and boys, grades 7-12 are being offered at the University of Winnipeg from October through December. Naoki Miyashita, former Head Coach of the Canadian Women's National Team and current Wesmen Assistant Coach will be the instructor. Dan Lother, men’s volleyball – Lother, fourth year setter was solid in this past Friday’s match against the Manitoba Bisons. Lother finished the match with 43 set assists and a team high 14 defensive digs.

Ariel Smith, women’s volleyball – Smith, in her second season provided a spark on offence and defense for the team this past Friday night against Manitoba. Smith led the team with 11 kills and 15 defensive digs.
