DIANE SCOTT INDUCTED INTO MANITOBA VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME
Monday, May 26, 2008 - The University of Winnipeg in conjunction with the Manitoba Volleyball Association would like to congratulate current women's volleyball coach Diane Scott on her recent induction into the Manitoba Volleyball Association Hall of fame.
Scott was a St. James Collegiate Graduate. She joined the Winnipeg Wesmen in 1983 and went on to win Three National Championships with the team. During her University Career she was named a Wesmen Female athlete of the year, 2nd Team All-Canadian, 1st Team All Canadian, CIAU Player of the Year, CIAU National All-star, and CIAU National MVP. From 1985 -1991 she was a member of the women's National Team and during that time participated in World student games, Goodwill Games, World Cups, World Championships, and many other international tournaments. She also had success playing senior women's volleyball winning a national title in 1985 and a national finalist in 2001. She played professional in Germany for three seasons before taking over as the head coach of the U of W Wesmen Women's Program in 1995. As a coach she has been recognized as CPAC coach of the year and led the Wesmen to a CIS Silver Medal. She has sat on various CIAU/CIS Committees, helped in a coaching capacity for many Senior Women National Team Camps and was a member of the MVA Technical Committee for a number of years.
I feel very honored to have been acknowledged by being inducted into the MVA Volleyball Hall of Fame. All the years in the gym, the hours of practice, training and playing seem like yesterday. To try to sum the journey up in a few words is difficult. Volleyball has meant traveling across the country and around the world, challenges on and off the court, growing up and growing wiser. It doesn't matter which country or what team it's a simple game of bump-set-spike. It's the people that mean the most, your team mates, opponents, coaches and parents. The friends I have made through volleyball mean the most to me, they have shared the journey! I am thankful, grateful and humble with this acknowledgment, said Diane Scott.
