CATIE GOOCH NAMED CANADA WEST ALL STAR

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 – The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the Canada West Athletics Association is pleased to announce that Catie Gooch has been named to the Canada West Women’s Basketball Second All-Star Team.

Gooch, a third year guard out of Glenlawn Collegiate appeared in all 22 regular season and five playoff contest for the Wesmen this season. Gooch finished in the Canada West Conference top ten in several categories including: 7th in scoring (12.9 ppg), 3rd in free-throw percentage (50-of-58 -86%) , 5th in steals (2.5 spg), 4th in three point shots made (44), 6th in three-point fg % (.373) and 3rd in minutes played per game (32.6 mpg). Catie led the team in scoring in 10 regular season and three playoff games. Gooch, a two time Academic All-Canadian scored a season high 26 points against Brandon (January 8, 2009). Catie was named the University of Winnipeg Female Athlete of the Month two times (December 2008, and January 2009) and was named the University of Winnipeg Female Athlete of the Week five times during the 2008-09 season.

“Catie is a competitor. She will do whatever it takes to help her team- a no quit attitude. Caity is our silent leader on and off the court, she is our back bone”, said Wesmen Head Coach Tanya McKay.
