SCHELLENBERG NAMED CIS MVB PLAYER OF THE YEAR,
ADDISON-SCHNEIDER NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-CANADIAN

Thursday, February 28, 2008 - Ben Schellenberg of the Winnipeg Wesmen has been named the 2007-08 CIS Men’s Volleyball Player of the Year and a First Team All-Canadian at the CIS Men’s Volleyball Championship awards breakfast held this morning in Laval, Quebec.

Schellenberg becomes the fourth Winnipeg Wesmen player to be named Player of the Year (Mark Gradt 1999-2000, Rob Olfert 1992-93, Michael Stephens (1986-87) are the others. The 6’6”, fifth year middle/opposite was recently named the Canada West Conference Most Valuable Player for the 2007-08 regular season. Schellenberg was among the Canada West conference leaders in numerous categories this season, placing fourth in kills (238), third in points (290), seventh in hitting percentage (.347) and ninth in digs (119). Last season he was a CIS Tournament all-star for the Wesmen, as the school captured their record tying tenth National title. Schellenberg, was named a Canada West all-star in 2006-07, an all-Canadian in 2005-06 and was named to the CIS all-rookie team in 2004. Schellenberg captained his team to a 14-4 regular season record, and a second place standing in the tough Canada West conference standings. The 22 year old psychology student, is a four time Academic All-Canadian with a GPA of over 4.0.

Also named a First Team All-Canadian was fifth year setter Dustin Addison-Schneider. Addison-Schneider, was recently named a First Team Canada West All-Star. The 6’0” setter from Brandon, Manitoba finished second in Canada West Conference in set assists (733) and assists/ per game (10.94). Addison-Schneider was named MVP and a Tournament All-Star at the 2006-07 CIS Men’s National Volleyball Championships. Dustin was named to the Canada West Second All-Star Team last season. The 22 year old Administrative Studies student, was named Academic All-Canadian in 2005-06.
