OGIDAN SELECTED TO NATIONAL SENIOR WOMEN’S DEVELOPMENT TEAM

Thursday, July 10, 2008 – The University of Winnipeg in conjunction with Basketball Canada is pleased to announce that women’s basketball player Amy Ogidan has been selected to Team Canada’s Senior Women’s Development Team.

Ogidan will join former Wesmen star Uzoma Asagwara in the National Team program and she becomes the first Wesmen rookie to make the National Team program since Beth Cochrane in 1982.

“We are extremely proud of Amy. What a tremendous accomplishment and opportunity at a young age. A CIS rookie All Canadian, part of the Senior National Development Program, her hard work is paying off.  This International experience will only take her game to a new level in the CIS. Having Amy Ogidan and Uzo Asagwara from the Wesmen program part of the National Senior Program is amazing.  We know the University of Winnipeg is very proud of these two young ladies representing our Institution”, said Wesmen Head coach Tanya McKay.

Ogidan, a 6’0” guard out of Oak Park High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba had an outstanding rookie season. She was named the Canada West Conference Female Basketball Player Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the CIS All-Rookie Team. Ogidan finished in the top twenty in several Canada West categories including, 19th in scoring (11.6 ppg), 19th in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and 12th in block shots per game.
