Monday, June 14, 2010 - The University of Winnipeg and Women’s Volleyball head coach Diane Scott are pleased to announce that Mackenzie Jeffrey and Erika Willows have committed to joining the Wesmen for the 2010-2011 season this September.

Mackenzie Jeffrey, 6’1” right side/middle will graduate from Miles Macdonnell Collegiate later this month with an academic average of 85%.

"I am very pleased to have Mackenzie join our Wesmen team. She played for our 14U team as a 13 year old and it was obvious then she had potential to play at the CIS level. She is an intense competitor and is motivated to work hard to improve her skills and physical potential. She brings physical size and grit to our team”, said Wesmen Head Coach Diane Scott.

A successful club player, she was a member of the Bison 18U team that won the 2010 provincial championship. She suited up for the Westwood Warriors 17U team in 2009 (Provincial finalist) and the Shock 16U team (2008 National and Provincial champions). She was named the best passer and blocker following the 2008 season.

Aside from volleyball Mackenzie was a member of the Buckeyes cross country, soccer and track teams.

"Mackenzie is a very dedicated athlete, always looking to improve herself on and off the court. She thrives on the intensity of a competitive environment and will be a definite asset for the Wesmen”, added Nadia Melon, Head Coach Miles Macdonnell Collegiate Varsity Girls Volleyball team.

Erika Willows,  5’9” left side, was the captain of the Sturgeon Heights Huskies Huskies Varsity Girl’s Volleyball team and a member of the Jr. Wesmen Girl’s Volleyball 18U club team.

Erika has been a member of multiple club championship teams and in 2007 was a member of the Shock Volleyball club team that won both the provincial and national titles. In 2008, Willows was instrumental in helping the Shock win their second consecutive Provincial championship and a silver medal at the Nationals. She was named an all-star at the Pepsi Challenge Volleyball Tournament in Halifax after helping Sturgeon Heights to a third place finish. A multi sport talent, Erika also excels at soccer where she was a member of the Woodhaven Hornets that won the city championships earlier this year. She has written articles for the Sturgeon Heights High School newspaper and maintained an 89% academic average last year.

“We are pleased to have Erika Willows joining our program next fall. She is such a dynamic athlete with big hops. Last season with the Jr. Wesmen we moved her from middle to left side and she did not skip a beat. She is an all-round solid athlete, a great player and leader”, noted University of Winnipeg Wesmen Head Coach Diane Scott.
