Konihowski, Barker Join Women's Volleyball Program
Head Coach Diane Scott Announced The Addition Of Kelsey Konihowski and Jina Barker To Her Women's Volleyball Roster..
Friday, June 4, 2010 - The University of Winnipeg Women’s Volleyball program and Head Coach Diane Scott are thrilled to announce that Kelsey Konihowski and Jina Barker have committed to joining the Wesmen for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
Kelsey Konihowski, joins the Wesmen after spending a season with Medicine Hat College. She was named the Most Improved Player and was a rookie of the year nominee with the Rattlers. The 5’8” setter/power played her high school volleyball at Central Collegiate High School in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where she took part in the Provincial Championships twice (2008, 2007). Kelsey was team captain for two years and in her final year at Central Collegiate High School was named Athlete of the Year.A multi sport talent, Konihowski excelled in basketball (team captain in grades 9 and 12, MVP in grade 12) and was also named Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2009. She represented Saskatchewan in Track and Field at the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
Kelsey was an Honour Roll student throughout high school.
Jina Barker, 5’9 Rightside/Setter also from Central Collegiate High School in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. A vital member of two city championship teams during her four year high school career. An accomplished club player, she was a Provincial Champion in 2009 and runner up in 2008 and 2010. In 2009, Barker was named the 16U Provincial Player of the Year.Aside from volleyball, Jina has received numerous team and individual awards in basketball, including City Senior Championships for three years and several tournament MVP’s and All-Star selections. She also excels in track, badminton, golf, swimming and skating.
