Former Wesmen Women's Volleyball Player Tesca Andrew-Wasylik Was Selected To Represent Canada At The 2013 Summer Universiade In Kazan, Russia..

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with Canadian Interuniversity Sport and Volleyball Canada are pleased to announce that former Wesmen Women's Volleyball player Tesca Andrew-Wasylik has been selected to represent Canada in women's volleyball at the 2013 Summer Universiade taking place next month (July 8-15) in Kazan, Russia.

The Unionville, Ontario product was a starter in every match for the Wesmen in 2011-2012 and was named the Canada West Women's Volleyball Libero of the Year. She averaged 4.11 digs per set and 308 in total. This placed her second in the conference in this category. Her stellar play helped the team finish second in team digs during the 2011-2012 regular season.

"We are extremely proud and pleased for Tesca on making the cut and becoming a member of Team Canada, it has been a goal of Tesca's for some time. She is a highly motivated gifted athlete who can only continue to inspire and improve in a disciplined high expectation environment such as the Summer Universiade", said Wesmen Women's Volleyball head coach Diane Scott.

Canada is coming off an 11th-place finish – out of 15 countries – in 2011 in Shenzhen and is looking to advance to the quarter-final round for the first time since 2001 (8th place). In 18 previous appearances at the Universiade tourney, Canada’s best result is a pair of fourth positions in 1997 in Sicily and 1983 in Edmonton.

In Russia, the Canadians will compete in the preliminary round in Pool B against Norway (July 8), Algeria (July 9) and the reigning champions from Brazil (July 10). The gold-medal final of the 16-team competition is scheduled for July 15.
