The University of Winnipeg Wesmen would like to congratulate Women’s Wrestler Maura Martina for being a recipient of the Premier’s Athletic Award in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Premier’s Athletic Awards Program recognizes athletic excellence and provides training and competition funding to athletes throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Since the Premier’s Athletic Awards Program was implemented in 2004, almost $525,000 in financial assistance has been provided to more than 400 athletes.
Martina from Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador recently completed her first season with the University of Winnipeg’s Women’s Wrestling Program. She had a successful season winning three medals (one silver and two bronze) competing in the 82 kg weight class.
"Within the Wesmen Wrestling program we are very proud of Maura & her accomplishments this season. Her acceptance of this very prestigious award is very symbolic of her achievements this past season”, said University of Winnipeg Wrestling coach Adrian Bruce.
