Froemel To Be Inducted Into Manitoba Basketball Hall Of Fame

Former Wesmen Men's Basketball Star Norm Froemel Will Be Inducted Into The Manitoba Basketball Hall Of Fame Later This Year..



The University of Winnipeg Wesmen is pleased to announce that former Men’s Basketball player Norm Froemel will be inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame later this year. The announcement was made earlier today at the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame Induction News Conference at the Duckworth Centre.

Froemel was a star member of the Wesmen Men’s Basketball Team from 1990-1995. In those five seasons he was named a CIAU All-Canadian (1994-95), a Great Plains Athletic Conference All-Star four times and was part of two Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship teams (1991-92, 1994-95). Froemel finished his Wesmen career as the all time Wesmen men’s rebounding leader with 1731 and third in career scoring with 3171 points. He holds the current Wesmen Men’s single season rebounding record hauling down 447 rebounds during the 1993-94 season.


Froemel's coach and former University of Winnipeg Athletic Director Bill Wedlake was on hand for the announcement on Tuesday afternoon at the Duckworth Centre.


After graduating from the University of Winnipeg in 1995 with a Bachelor of Education, Norm traveled to Germany to play professional basketball for six years.

Froemel is currently a Physical Education instructor at J.H. Bruns Collegiate in Winnipeg.

The official Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Victoria Inn.
