GOOCH, PRASEK LEAD WESMEN TO VICTORY
The backcourt duo of Catie Gooch and Mackenzie Prasek scored 45 points between the two of them to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 75-58 victory over the Brandon Bobcats Friday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
Gooch led the way scoring a game high 24 points, including four-three pointers. Prasek was right behind scoring 21 points, including a pair of three pointers.
Rosemary Mills led the Bobcats with 11 points, including three-three pointers. Nicisha Johnson and Melanie Thompson each added 10 points.
Winnipeg played a solid opening up a 17-9 lead seven minutes into the game. The Bobcats did not turn over scoring six unanswered points to cut the Wesmen lead to 17-15. A long three pointer by Prasek with two seconds left gave the Wesmen a 20-15 lead after the opening ten minutes.
Both teams struggled from the field in the second quarter which saw both teams score nine points each. Winnipeg went into the halftime break leading 29-24.
The battle carried on into the third quarter with both teams playing tight defensive basketball limiting the other to limited shots from the field. Winnipeg opened up a nine point lead on a few occasions only to have Brandon answer back cutting the lead to five points. Winnipeg outscored Brandon 15-12 to lead 44-36 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, the Wesmen went on a 11-4 run in the opening 2:30 minutes to extend their lead to double digits (55-40). Winnipeg carried the double digit lead for the remainder of the game.
The victory improves Winnipeg's record to an even 3-3. Brandon remains winless at 0-7. The two teams will meet Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre to wrap up the weekend series.

WESMEN FALL SHORT AGAINST BOBCATS
The Winnipeg Wesmen fell short in an 80-75 loss to the Brandon Bobcats Friday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
The contest between the two provincial rivals was an evenly played game for the entire 40 minutes.
Tarik Tokar led the Bobcats with a game high 24 points. Dany Charlery added 20 points and a team leading seven rebounds.
The Wesmen had four players scoring in double digits. Nick Lother led the way with 22 points, including three-three pointers. Peter Lomuro finished with 15. Mike James and Adam Dobriansky added 13 and 12 respectively. James led the team with nine rebounds.
Winnipeg scored the opening two baskets of the game only to see the Bobcats roar back in a big way scoring 12 straight points to open up a 12-4 lead at the midway point of the opening quarter. The teams exchanged baskets down the stretch and a long three pointer by Lother at the buzzer cut the Brandon lead to 21-16 after the opening quarter.
The Wesmen stormed back in the second quarter going on a 13-2 run to take a 29-23 lead with 3:00 minutes to play. Winnipeg held their six point advantage with one minute to play when a three pointer by Charlery combined with a jumper by Tokar gave the Wesmen a 33-32 lead at halftime.
Brandon gained control back in a wild third quarter. Led by Tokar's 13 points in the quarter Brandon outscored the Wesmen 27-17 and held a 59-50 lead after three quarters.
The Bobcats enjoyed a double-digit lead for the first half of the final quarter only to see the Wesmen make a late charge trailing 77-73 but Brandon held off the attack to secure the win.
The victory improves Brandon's record to 2-5. Winnipeg still remains winless at 0-6. The two teams will continue the battle at the Duckworth Centre Saturday night. Game time is 8:00 p.m.

BOBCATS DEFEAT WESMEN
The seventh ranked Brandon Bobcats defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) Friday night in Brandon.
Jaryn Ruether led the Bobcats with 10 kills. Erin Visch-Krahn had 16 digs.
Sonia Rossy continued her fine play in her first CIS season leading the Wesmen with 13 kills. Carleen Kruschel added 11. Rossy was the Wesmen leader in digs with 17.
The victory improves Brandon's record to 5-2. Winnipeg falls to 1-5. The two teams will meet Saturday night in Brandon to wrap up the weekend series. Match time is 6:00 p.m.

BRANDON UPENDS WESMEN
In a battle between two top ten teams in the country, the number nine ranked Brandon Bobcats defeated the number seven ranked Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-15) Friday evening in Brandon.
Paul Sanderson led the Bobcats with a match high 19 kills. Kevin Miller added eight defensive digs to lead Brandon in that department.
Andrew Town led the Wesmen with nine kills followed by Justin Duff with seven. Dan Lother and Derek Miller each had five digs to lead the Wesmen.
Brandon's record improves to 4-3, while Winnipeg drops to 2-4. The two provincial rivals will meet Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. in Brandon to wrap up the weekend series.

WESMEN 70 Brandon 64
WESMEN COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP OVER BOBCATS
The Winnipeg Wesmen completed a weekend sweep against the Brandon Bobcats with a come from behind 70-64 victory Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
Brandon held the lead for a majority of the game until the Wesmen mounted a fourth quarter comeback to complete the two game weekend sweep.
Catie Gooch led the Wesmen in scoring for the second consecutive night pouring in a game high 25 points, including five three pointers. Gooch also added four assists and three steals.
Amy Ogidan finished with 14 points. Kaitlin Rempel finished with a double-double, 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Nicisha Johnson led Brandon with 15 points and also added a game high 15 rebounds. Sarah Lopes added 13 points. Jayla Bousquet finished with 12.
The Bobcats relied on aggressive defensive play in the opening quarter frustrating the Wesmen shooters and taking advantage of some Wesmen turnovers on their way to a 15-12 lead after the opening quarter.
Brandon continued to hold the lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Wesmen 17-16 to take a 32-28 lead into the halftime break.
Winnipeg came out of the break scoring five straight points to take a 33-32 lead early in the third quarter. Brandon responded to every Wesmen challenge in the quarter and pushed their lead to 49-43 after three quarters.
Winnipeg found their game in the fourth quarter outscoring Brandon 16-8 in the opening five minutes to take the lead at 59-57. Catie Gooch followed with a long three pointer to give the Wesmen a 62-57 lead and Winnipeg was able to sink four free throws in the final 20 seconds to clinch the victory.
The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 4-3. Brandon remains winless on the season with a record of 0-8. The Wesmen will host UBC on Friday night and Victoria on Saturday night. Both games at the Duckworth Centre starting at 6:00 p.m. Brandon will host Thompson Rivers and Fraser Valley next Friday and Saturday.

BOBCATS EDGE WESMEN IN OVERTIME
The Brandon Bobcats needed five extra minutes to defeat a stubborn Winnipeg Wesmen team 83-76 Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
The teams were tied at 68-68 after four quarters.
Dany Charlery led the Bobcats with a game high 34 points, 11 rebounds. Andrew Kraus added 15 followed by Kyrie Coleman with 12.
Winnipeg had four players in double digits led by Eric Zimmerman's 18 points. Nick Lother added 17 points and five assists. Peter Lomuro finished with 15 and shared the team lead in rebounds with nine. Mike James had 13 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Willerton had a strong game with nine points, six rebounds and four key blocks.
Brandon took control of the game in the early stages leading 15-12 after the opening quarter went on to outscore the Wesmen 24-15 in the second quarter to take a 39-27 lead into the halftime break.
A determined Wesmen squad rallied in the third quarter, sparked by a pair of three pointers late in the quarter by Nick Lother and Peter Lomuro to outscore the Bobcats 20-14 and trim the Brandon lead to 53-47 after three.
In a wild fourth quarter, both teams matched each other point for point with Brandon holding on to a 61-57 lead at the 5:00 minute mark. Winnipeg got the defensive spark they needed by Ryan Willerton, who came up with two back to back blocks follwed by a three pointer by Eric Zimmerman to trail 66-64 with over two minutes to play. A Dany Charlery bucket with 58 seconds left gave Brandon the lead at 68-66 setting up the late game heroics. Willerton managed to tip in a shot with seven seconds left to tie the score at 68-68 forcing the extra frame.
Brandon outscored the Wesmen 15-8 in overtime for their second victory in as many nights over the Wesmen.
Brandons record improves to 3-5. Winnipeg remains winless at 0-7. Winnipeg will play host to UBC and Victoria next Friday and Saturday at the Duckworth Centre. Brandon will host Thompson Rivers and Fraser Valley.

BOBCATS DOWN WESMEN IN FIVE

The Winnipeg Wesmen threw everything they could and more at the Brandon Bobcats in the second match of the weekend series. The Bobcats edged the Wesmen 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 15-7) Saturday night in Brandon.
Erin Visch-Krahn led the Bobcats with 15 kills. Tegan Hunter and Jaryn Ruether added 12 each. Hunter led Brandon with a match high 24 defensive digs. Claire Willerton was in on seven blocks to lead Brandon.
Ariel Smith led the Wesmen with 14 kills and 23 digs. Alix Krahn had 10 kills and was in on eight blocks to lead the Wesmen.
Brandon's record stands at 6-2. Winnipeg's record drops to 1-6. The Wesmen will close out their first half schedule at home next Saturday and Sunday against Thompson Rivers.

BOBCATS DEFEAT WESMEN
The Brandon Bobcats defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20) Saturday night in Brandon.
The victory by the ninth ranked Bobcats is their second consecutive victory over the seventh ranked Wesmen. Brandon won the opener Friday night 3-0.
