Cunningham,Brenton Named Athletes Of The Month

Women's Wrestler Jessica Brenton And Men's Basketball Player Andrew Cunningham Were Selected Today As The Lea Marc Wesmen Athletes Of The Month..

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with lea marc Printing Solutions are pleased to announce that Women’s Wrestler Jessica Brenton and Men’s Basketball player Andrew Cunningham have been chosen as the lea marc Printing Solutions Wesmen Athletes of the Month for February 2013.

   
Jessica Brenton, Women's Wrestling - Brenton, a second year wrestler showed her form that won her the Canada West Women's Wrestling Rookie of the Year award last season. Brenton competed in two Canada West competitions in the 63 kg weight class and finished in the top three in both events. At the Canada West Wrestling Championships, Brenton finished in second place and qualified for the 2013 CIS Wrestling Championships being held this weekend at Western University in London Ontario. She started off the month with a third place result at the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Invitational held at the Duckworth Centre.

  

Andrew Cunningham, Men's Basketball - Cunningham, a fourth year guard played a big role in helping the Wesmen qualify for post season play. In five regular season games, Cunningham scored 64 points, dished out 31 assists and grabbed 15 rebounds. In the final regular season game against Manitoba with a playoff berth on the line, Cunningham finished the game with 33 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in leading Winnipeg to an 89-85 victory. In the contest he set a Canada West single season record for assists (163). Cunningham stepped up his game in the 2-1 playoff series victory over Trinty Western finishing with 51 points, 42 assists and 14 rebounds. In game two of the series he tied a Canada West single game record finishing with 17 assists.
