Wesmen Send Five To Nationals, Miller Named Rookie of the Year
The University of Winnipeg Wesmen will send five wrestlers (three men
and two women) to the CIS National Championships next month in London, Ontario. The 2013 CIS Wrestling Championships will take place on March 1-2 in London,
Ontario at Western University. The Brock University Badgers are the reigning
women’s champions, while the Concordia University Stingers are defending men’s
champions.
On
the men's side Jake Miller and Briston Brenton continued their
impressive showings as of late by finishing in first place in the 76 and
83 kg weight class respectively. Miller was named the Canada West Men's
Wrestling Rookie of the Year at the Canada West Wrestling Championships
awards banquet held earlier this evening. Both Miller and Brenton will
be strong medal contenders at the CIS Championships. Kyle Nguyen will be
third member of the men's team to head to London, Ontario. Nguyen
placed third in the 130 kg class.Jessica Brenton finished in second place in the women's 63 kg weight class and will be making her second consecutive appearance at the CIS Nationals. Emily Kessler finished third in the 55kg class to earn her spot in London, Ontario.
