Women's Volleyball at Thompson Rivers
WESMEN def Thompson Rivers 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-18)
The Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Volleyball team wrapped up their 2012-2013 season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-18) victory over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Saturday night in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Match Statistics
Winnipeg with the victory finishes the season with a 9-13 record. The WolfPack finish the year at 0-22.
Second year left side Ozana Nikolic led the Wesmen with 17 kills, four service aces and three blocks. First year middle blocker Sarah Lynch led the team with 13 defensive digs and four blocks.
“We are very happy to finish with a couple of wins. We are a little disappointed we missed an opportunity to get to the next round. Certainly we are pleased. We had a really good run in the second half. I am very proud of my team. They are a great group of young women. We dealt with some adversity through the season early on and we came together. It was probably one of the best teams I have had the privilege of coaching", said Wesmen head coach Diane Scott, commenting on the weekend series.

The Winnipeg Wesmen Men's Volleyball team ended their regular season on a winning note. The Wesmen defeated the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 27-25) Saturday evening in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Match Statistics
Winnipeg finishes the regular season with a record of 11-11 and a seventh place finish in the Canada West Conference standings. The WolfPack with the loss finish at 8-14.
Tom Douglas Powell led the Wesmen with 16 kills. Ty Loewen finished with eight defensive digs. Cam Baydock had four blocks and Michael Bommersbach had 23 assists.
The Wesmen won the opening two sets by identical scores of 25-19 before the WolfPack pushed the Wesmen to extra points in the third set, eventually won 27-25 by Winnipeg.
We just got off to a better start tonight, said Wesmen head coach Larry McKay. Our first contact was better and we were fortunate that Thompson Rivers did not. We switched place with them from last night. I thought our squad was pretty calm throughout. There was no real highs or lows. We maintained a constant even level.
Winnipeg will travel to Langley, British Columbia next week to take on the Trinity Western University Spartans in the Canada West quarter-finals.

Women's Volleyball at Thompson Rivers

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen started their final road trip of the season on a winning note. Winnipeg defeated the ThompsonRivers University WolfPack 3-0 (25-8, 25-18, 25-10) Friday evening on the road in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Match Statistics
Ozana Nikolic led the Wesmen with 10 kills, seven digs and four service aces. Setter Ellina Domnidou had three aces to go with her 21 assists. Middle blocker Sarah Lynch had three blocks and three service aces.
Winnipeg's strong serving was evident as the Wesmen finished the match with 16 service aces. The WolfPack managed four.
The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 8-13, Thompson Rivers remain winless at 0-21.
The two teams will wrap up their respective Canada West regular season schedules Saturday at 7:00 p.m.(Winnipeg Time)

Thompson Rivers def WESMEN 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 26-24)
The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack defeated the visiting University of Winnipeg Wesmen 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 26-24) Friday evening in Kamloops, BC.
Match Statistics
With the win the WolfPack improve their record to 8-13. Winnipg with the loss drops below .500 with a 10-11 record.
The WolfPack were on fire in the opening set finishing with a hitting percentage of .562 with only one attacking error. The hometown WolfPack won the opening set 25-17.
Winnipeg bounced back in the second set racing out to a 9-2 lead. Thompson Rivers got back into the set cutting the Wesmen lead to 16-14 at the technical break. The teams battled to 23-23 late in the set and after an exchange of service errors, the WolfPack scored the final two points to win the set 26-24.
In a close third set, Winnipeg held a slim 16-15 lead at the technical break. The WolfPack and Wesmen battled to extra points with Thompson Rivers closing oput the match winning the third set 26-24.
Brad Gunter led Thompson Rivers with 14 kills and eight digs. Mohamed Rehim had 11.
Casey Schouten and Brendan Black led the Wesmen with eight kills. Riley Delavau had nine digs. Black, Tom Douglas Powell and Kenny McKenzie each had two blocks.
The two teams will wrap up their weekend series Saturday night at 8:45 p.m. (Winnipeg Time)
