Sunday, January 13, 2013 - The Winnipeg Wesmen Men's and Women's Wrestling teams took part in the University of Regina Cougars Open this past Saturday in Regina.
Winnipeg came home from the meet with four medals in total (One gold and three bronze). In the team standings the women’s team placed fourth while on the men’s side the team placed fifth.

In the individual results, the Winnipeg Wesmen had several wrestlers finish
in the top six in their respective weight classes.
Briston Brenton, won his second gold medal in as many weeks
finishing in first place in the 82 kg weight class. Briston captured gold at
the University of Alberta Golden Bears Tournament last weekend in Edmonton. Brock Munro finished in fourth in the
68 kg weight class. Kyle Nguyen had
another solid tournament finishing in fourth in the 130 kg class. Jamie Maiers and Jake Miller finished in sixth place in the 76 and 82 kg weight
classes respectively.
On the women's side, last season’s Canada West Women’s Rookie of the Year Jessica Brenton won the bronze medal in the 63 kg weight class. It was
Brenton’s first meet of the season. Maura Martina came in
third place in the 82 kg weight class to win her second bronze medal of the
season. Martina won bronze in Edmonton
last weekend. Rachel Alder wrestling
out of the Wesmen Wrestling Club won bronze in the 51 kg class. Masrine Edwards and Emily Kessler had strong showings
placing fourth in the 51 and 55 kg weight classes.
