Natasha Rupa Set To Join Women's Volleyball

Women's Volleyball Head Coach Diane Scott Announced Today That Natasha Rupa From Shoal Lake, Manitoba Has Committed To Joining The Wesmen Next Season..

University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women’s Volleyball head coach Diane Scott is pleased to announce that Natasha Rupa (Shoal Lake, Manitoba) has committed to joining the Wesmen for the 2013-2014 Canada West Volleyball season next September.

Rupa was named a Manitoba Volleyball Association Graduating All-Star following her 2012 season as a member of the Shoal Lake Sharks. In 2011 she won a silver medal at the Provincial “A” Girls Volleyball Championships and was awarded the Players Choice Award (voted on by her fellow competitors). She was also named to the Tournament All-Star Team. At the 2010 Provincial Championships, Rupa was once again awarded the Players Choice Award and a spot on the Tournament All-Star Team.

“Natasha is a very fundamentally sound player with good instincts for the game. She is a friendly and outgoing individual who puts everyone she meets instantly at ease. It is this quality that has made her a very effective student-coach for our middle year’s players. I am confident that she will do whatever is asked of her in order to be a contributing member of the Wesmen for the next five years and we wish her the best on the court and in the classroom”, added Scott Martin, head coach Shoal Lake High School Girls Volleyball team.

An accomplished club and provincial team player, she played a vital role in helping the Westman Volleyball Club win a silver medal at the 2012 Club Provincial Championships. The 5’8” setter and team captain was named to the All-Star team. She was also a member of the Provincial Team for two years and helped Manitoba to a 4th place finish at the Western Elites in Kelowna, BC.

“Natasha is every coach’s dream. She is a player that is willing to do anything to become a better athlete, team mate and person. Her above age maturity is what has led Natasha to develop such knowledge of the game and appreciation for hard work. She treats every rep in practice as it is a game point and this work ethic is not only contagious to the teams she has captained for me, but an expectation she has on her teammates and self. She will bring a work ethic that any university in Canada would love to have. We are so proud of her meeting her goal to set for the Wesmen, but even more than that, we are proud of the person she has become”, added Westman Volleyball Club coaches Lisa Nichol and Dean Oakden.

Rupa currently possesses an 80% average at Shoal Lake High School all this while participating in badminton, track and field, soccer, basketball and volleyball. She is an active member as a peer helper and MAC Group. She helped organize the 30 hour famine and is currently looking to start a breakfast program.

An honour roll student, she also received a Youth Volunteer Group Award and several awards in swimming.
