Thursday, November 22, 2012 - The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) are pleased to announce that Men's Basketball player Benny Iko has been selected as the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending November 18, 2012.

Iko was honoured as the Canada West Male Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Iko, a fifth-year student from Laurel, Maryland, registered back-to-back double-doubles as the Wesmen improved to 4-2 in conference play thanks to a two-game sweep over Brandon. Last Thursday in Winnipeg, the 6-foot-7 forward tallied 27 points, including 15 on five three-pointers, 14 rebounds and two blocks in a 103-72 win. He once again led the way on Saturday night in Brandon with a 13-point, 11-board effort in a 72-60 victory.

Winnipeg will travel to British Columbia for a pair of games this week.The Wesmen will take on Trinity Western on Friday and Fraser Valley on Saturday.

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with the Canada West Universities Athletic Association are pleased to announce that Men's Basketball player Benny Iko has been selected as the Canada West Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending November 18, 2012.

Iko, a fifth year forward recorded back-to-back double-doubles in helping the Men’s Basketball team complete a two game sweep over the Brandon Bobcats this past week.

Iko scored 40 points, hauled in 25 rebounds and drained six-three pointers in the two victories.

In Thursday’s decisive 103-72 victory, Iko had a game high 27 points to go along with 14 rebounds, five-three pointers and two blocks.

On Saturday in the wrap up game of the home and home series, Iko recorded his second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Winnipeg's 72-60 victory in Brandon.

"We were happy with Benny's performance this past weekend. He played with great energy, was active and made good decisions on the offensive end. We are hopeful he can continue to play at a high level", said Wesmen head coach Mike Raimbault.

The Wesmen (4-2) are currently riding a four game winning streak. The team will be on the road to take on Trinity Western and Fraser Valley this coming Friday and Saturday.
