Sisler Captain Commits To Women's Volleyball Program

Women's Volleyball Head Coach Diane Scott Announced Today That Sisler Team Captain Aaliyah Masepela Will Be Joining The Wesmen For The 2013-14 Season..


The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and Women’s Volleyball head coach Diane Scott are pleased to announce that Aaliyah Masepela from Sisler High School has committed to joining the women’s volleyball program for the start of the 2013-2014 Canada West season next September.

Masepela, a 5’11” middle blocker is currently completing her grade 12 at Sisler and spent this past season as the captain of the varsity girl’s volleyball team. She is a three-time Manitoba Volleyball Association Provincial Championship medalist including gold in 2009-2010 and 2012 along with a bronze medal in 2010-2011. At the 2012 championships she was voted to the championship all-star team.

“We are extremely pleased and excited to have Aaliyah join our program. She is an outstanding young woman in her community and is a very gifted athlete and we believe has potential to become a very strong CIS female volleyball player”, added Wesmen head coach Diane Scott.

An honour roll student and two-time Female Athlete of the Year, she is an accomplished club player as a member of the Mavericks Girls Volleyball 18U Club Team.

“The Maverick's Volleyball Club is very excited that Aaliyah Masepela will be joining the University of Winnipeg Women's Volleyball program. Aaliyah is an excellent person, great team mate and has the work ethic to play at the CIS level. Her natural athletic ability will be a huge asset for the team's growth and potential”, said Mavericks head coach Andy Tesch.

“Aaliyah is a smart, athletic player who dominates at the net, and most importantly, she is very coachable”, added Sisler head coach Kyle Friesen.

Away from the court, Masepela is very active in the community. She was a volunteer at Shaughnessy Elementary School and is currently a Sunday School Assistant at Cross Church.
