Women's Basketball at Brandon
WESMEN 71 Brandon 53
The Winnipeg Wesmen completed a home and home series sweep against the Brandon Bobcats with a 71-53 victory Saturday night in Brandon.

Winnipeg defeated the Bobcats 78-32 in Thursday's contest at the Duckworth Centre.
The Wesmen improve their record to 2-4. Brandon sits at 0-6.
First year post Lauren Anderson led Winnipeg with 15 points. Brandon native Tia Coulter added 10 points and seven rebounds. Stephanie Kleysen led the Wesmen in rebounding with 10.
Jaynell Gillet, Chantal Gaslard and Aimee Johnston each scored nine points for Brandon.
Brandon, playing their first game in their new facility stayed close with the Wesmen in the opening quarter. Winnipeg led 18-11 after the opening 10 minutes. The Wesmen outscored Brandon 13-9 in the second quarter to go into the halftime break with a 31-20 lead.
Winnipeg put the game away early in the third quarter. The Wesmen scored eight straight points in the opening minute to extend their lead to 39-20. The Bobcats were unable to put a dent into the Winnipeg lead for the remainder of the game.
The Wesmen had a huge game on the boards, out-rebounding the Bobcats 55-33. Winnipeg was stellar on the defensive side of the ball finishing the contest with 14 steals.
Winnipeg will be on the road next weekend starting with a game on Friday against Trinity Western and Saturday against Fraser Valley.
Men's Basketball at Brandon
WESMEN 72 Brandon 60
The streak continues. The Men's Basketball team extended their winning streak to four with a 72-60 victory over the Brandon Bobcats Saturday night in Brandon.

Winnipeg with the win improves their record to 4-2. Brandon falls to 1-5.
All five Wesmen starters finished in double-digit scoring, led by Steven Wesley's team-high 17 points. Benny Iko also finished with a double-double consisting of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Jordan Reaves had a monster game for the Bobcats, putting up 13 points and pulling down 21 rebounds. Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak had a double-double as well, finishing with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds.
The teams had an even opening first half but the visiting Wesmen gained the momentum going into the halftime break. A technical foul on Brandon sent Travis Krahn to the line. Krahn subsequently made both free-throws, giving the Wesmen a 35-34 lead at half-time.
In an entertaining third quarter that started out with both teams taking turns holding the lead, that changed in a hurry. After a Wesley lay-up tied the score at 43-43, Brandon went on a 10-1 run to open up a 53-44 lead with 1:23 left in the quarter. The Wesmen answered back sinking five straight free throws and followed that up with a Travis Krahn three-pointer to cut the Brandon lead to 53-52 after three quarters. Winnipeg put the game away in the fourth quarter outscoring the Bobcats 20-7.
Winnipeg will travel to British Columbia next weekend for games against Trinity Western and Fraser Valley.

WESMEN 78 Brandon 32
The Winnipeg Wesmen picked up their first regular season victory of the 2012-2013 season with a convincing 78-32 victory over the Brandon University Bobcats Thursday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg with the victory improves to 1-4. Brandon remains winless at 0-5.
Third year guard Yael Kaplan led the Wesmen with a game high 19 points, including three-three pointers. Lauren Anderson added 16 points and seven rebounds. Stephanie Kleysen finished with 12 points.
Second year guard Stephanie Haynes led Brandon with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jaynell Gillett was next with seven.
Winnipeg gained control early on, jumping out to a 17-4 advantage after the opening quarter. The Wesmen continued to carry the play in the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 18-11 to carry a 35-15 lead into the halftime break.
The hometown Wesmen put the game out of reach in the third quarter, exploding for 26 points and holding the visiting Bobcats to seven points in the quarter. Winnipeg extended their lead to 61-22 after thirty minutes of play.
"Great team effort on defense. I was really pleased with the pressure we put on them", added Wesmen head coach Tanya McKay.
Notes: Winnipeg connected for seven three-pointers, Brandon was 0-6. The Wesmen had a 42-34 advantage in the rebounding department.
The teams will wrap up the home and home series Saturday night in Brandon. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

WESMEN 103 Brandon 72
Wesmen forwards Benny Iko and Steven Wesley registered double-doubles to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 103-72 victory over their provincial rivals the Brandon University Bobcats Thursday night in Winnipeg.
Game Statistics
Iko finished with 27 points, including five-three pointers and 14 rebounds. Wesley had 19 points to go along with a game high 15 rebounds.
The victory is the third in a row for Winnipeg and improves their record to 3-2. Brandon falls to 1-4 in the Canada West Conference standings.
Winnipeg had three more players in double figures. Sam Hattin added 15 points. Nolan Gooding finished with 13 and Travis Krahn added 12.
Third year guard Kenonte Ramsey led Brandon with 24 points. Reggie Smith added 15. Ali-Mounir Benabdelhak added 14 points and a team high seven rebounds.
Winnipeg had the advantage early on racing out to a quick 24-17 lead after the opening quarter, thanks in part to four-three pointers. Brandon stayed close to the Wesmen in the early stages of the second quarter but that was short lived. The Wesmen went on a 17-3 run in a four minute span to extend their lead to 49-27 with just under four minutes to play. The Wesmen went into the halftime break leading 53-36.
The Wesmen were on fire in the first half connecting on 20-of-33 (61%) shooting from the field and an incredible 10-of-15 from three-point territory.
Brandon made a move in the third quarter. Winnipeg held a 64-41 lead but quickly watched Brandon reel off 10 straight points to cut the margin to 64-51 with 2:17 left in the third. The Wesmen kept their composure and continued to lead 69-53 after three quarters. The Wesmen exploded for 34 points in the final quarter to make the final tally 103-72.
"Tonight was a team effort. We had solid contributions from a variety of guys. Now we have to focus on preparing for the second game of the series and bringing a strong effort on Saturday", added Wesmen head coach Mike Raimbault.
Winnipeg will head to Brandon on Saturday to wrap up the home and home series. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
