The  Men's Soccer team wrapped up their 2012 season with their biggest win of all. The Wesmen defeated the defending CIS champions, the University of Victoria Vikes 2-0 Saturday evening in Victoria, British Columbia.

Adam Bromley and Ralph Tolosa scored for Winnipeg. Wesmen goalkeeper Tyson Farago made nine saves in the match for the shutout.Farago was named the Wesmen MVP of the match.

The Wesmen opened the scoring in the 38th minute after a long ball into the box was headed into the bottom left corner by fourth-year Adam Bromley.

Second-year midfielder Spencer MacKinnon was the first to test Wesmen keeper Farago, when he connected well to head a ball on target in the 9th minute. Two minutes following, Wesmen midfielder Scott Ansell fired a ball on target, which was saved by Vikes keeper Elliot Mitrou . Mitrou gave up a rebound that allowed Wesmen forward Ross Pinhammer to blast another shot but that one went wide.

A series of attacks led by Winnipeg's Yiannis Tsalatsidis, Pinhammer and Rundle continued to motivate the Wesmen's energy forward as they hung on for the 1-0 lead entering the break.
The Vikes men pressed in the second half with several good attempts from distance led by Kurt Macaulay  Colantonio and Prette. Winnipeg keeper Farago was outstanding in the second half and dominated in the box, making every save needed including a shot from point blank by Prette.

In the 61st minute, Tolosa put the Wesmen up by two after Mitrou made an initial save and punched the ball out of the box but a distracted defence line left Tolosa the chance fire at will. Tolosa sent a ball high into the net to send his team celebrating as the Wesmen handed the Vikes their first loss at home.

The Wesmen improved their final standings to 2-10-3, while the Vikes drop to 6-6-2.

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, 5-0, in their first ever Canada West meeting, Friday evening in Chilliwack, BC.

The Cascades improve their Canada West regular season record to 4-5-4. Winnipeg, playing their second last match of the season sees their record fall to 1-10-3.

The Cascades dominated both on offense and defense as they held the Wesmen to six shots while registering 24 total shots of their own. The Cascades opening the scoring at the 32nd minute of play as Connor MacMillan set up Sasa Plavsic in front of the Winnipeg net for his fourth goal of the season beating Wesmen goalkeeper Tyson Farago. UFV led by the lone goal at the half.

In the second half Fraser Valley put the match out of reach scoring  four unanswered goals led by Plavsic who set up Cam McKinnon with his first goal of the season. Five minutes later Plavsic went right back to work scoring his second goal of the night as be converted a Justin Sekhon pass to give the Cascades a three goal advantage. The Cascades continued to pressure Winnipeg’s defense and score two more goals in the half to make the final score 5-0.

The Wesmen will wrap up their regular season schedule Saturday night in Victoria against the Vikes. Match time is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. (Wpg Time).
