An offensive explosion mixed with stellar defense was the perfect combination for the Wesmen on this evening. Winnipeg defeated the Jamestown Jimmies 90-40 in the opening match of the 2012 Pembina Chrysler Men's Basketball Tournament Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

It was a total team effort for the Wesmen with every player hitting the score sheet. Benny Iko and Jamar Farley led the way with 14 points each. Seaton George added 13, including some highlight reel dunks in the second half. Mark McNee finished with 10 points. McNee and Iko led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.

Jesse Behm led the Jimmies with a game high 15 points. Murray Hopper added eight. Eric Knodel led the team with seven rebounds.

Winnipeg held a slim 14-12 lead after the opening ten minutes and outscored the Jimmies 23-11 in the second quarter to open up a 37-23 lead at the halftime break.

The hometown Wesmen put the game out of reach in the second half exploding for 53 points and put up the defensive wall allowing the Jimmies to score 17 points in the final 20 minutes.

Winnipeg finished the contest with 12-three pointers, with Farley leading the way with four. Jamestown was one-of-seven from three point territory. The Wesmen had a 45-31 rebounding advantage.

The Wesmen will take on the Brandon Bobcats Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. Jamestown will play Manitoba in the late game at 8:00 p.m.

The Manitoba Bisons defeated their provincial rivals the Brandon University Bobcats 77-50 in the late game at the 2012 Pembina Chrysler Men's Basketball Tournament at the Duckworth Centre Friday night.

Davidson Joseph led Manitoba with a game high 15 points, including a pair of three pointers. Kevin Oliver finished with 11 points.

A,M. Benabdelhak led the Bobcats with 12 points. Turell Scott was next with 11. Jordan Reaves hauled down eight rebounds.

Manitoba led at halftime 31-22 and put the game out of reach in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 46-28 to make the final tally 77-50.

Brandon will face the hometown Wesmen in the early game Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. Manitoba will face Jamestown at 8:00 p.m.

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen finished the 2012 Pembina Chrysler Tournament undefeated. Winnipeg defeated the Brandon University Bobcats 79-64 Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.

The Wesmen opened up the two-day event with a convincing 90-40 victory over Jamestown College Friday night.

Fourth year guard Andrew Cunningham led the Wesmen with a game high 20 points. Cunningham also dished out eight assists and had two steals. Fifth year guard Nolan Gooding had 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Benny Iko led the Wesmen in rebounding with eight.

Three Bobcat players finished in double digits led by Jordan Reaves and Kenonte Ramsey with 19 each. Ilarion Bonhomme had 11. Turell Scott led Brandon on the boards with nine.

The first quarter saw both teams put on an offensive display. The teams were tied at 22-22 after the opening 10 minutes of play. Each team knocked down three-three pointers and shot over 40% from the field. Brandon was 9-of-16 (56%) to open the game.

Both teams tightened up their defensive play in the second quarter. Winnipeg outscored Brandon 17-11 to carry a 39-33 lead into the halftime break.

Winnipeg made a statement in the opening three minutes of the third quarter going on a 10-2 run, thanks to three pointers by Cunningham and Travis Krahn to open up a 49-35 lead. Winnipeg continued to carry a double-digit lead for the remainder of the quarter and took a 58-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

Brandon outscored Winnipeg 23-21 in the final quarter but the Wesmen lead was to much to overcome making the final score 79-64.

Head coach Mike Raimbault was pleased with his team's effort in the two games played.

"Friday we were able to get some of our young guys very valuable experience and we were pleased with their efforts. This evening was a solid team outing and the next step in our preparation for conference play", said Raimbault.

Winnipeg will open up their regular season schedule on the road next Friday and Saturday in Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns.

A strong second half lifted the Manitoba Bisons to a convincing 88-51 victory over the Jamestown Jimmies Saturday evening at the Pembina Chrysler Tournament at the Duckworth Centre.

Manitoba went into the halftime break with a slim 38-32 lead but exploded in the second half outscoring the Jimmies 50-19.

Yigit Ozsayiner led the Bisons with a game high 16 points. Caleb Noel and Xavier Smith added 15. Stephen Walton and Amir Ali pitched in with 11 each.Kevin Oliver and Wyatt Anders led the Bisons in rebounding with six each.

Murray Hopper led the Jimmies with 12 points. Dimarco Mallet added 11. Jesse Behm led Jamestown in rebounding with a game high 11boards.

Manitoba finishes the two day event with a record of 1-1. Jamestown goes home with a record of 0-2.
