WBB Undefeated At Shoot For The Cure Tourney

The Women's Basketball Team Finished The Shoot For The Cure Tournament With A Perfect 3-0 Record. Winnipeg Defeated Lakehead 70-55 Sunday Afternoon..

WESMEN 79  Olds College 77  Game Statistics

Alyssa Grant scored a layup with 18 seconds left in the final quarter to give the Winnipeg Wesmen a dramatic 79-77 victory Friday night at the Shoot For The Cure Women's Basketball Tournament at the University of Manitoba.

Grant, Alex Warburton and Katie Waring led the Wesmen with 12 points each. Lauren Anderson had 11 followed by Yael Kaplan with 10. Tia Coulter led the team in rebounds with eight.

Jylisa Williams led Olds College with a game high 40 points and 15 rebounds.

Winnipeg went into the halftime break with a slim 41-39 lead. Olds College outscored the Wesmen in the third quarter to even the game at 61-61 heading into the final quarter.

The Wesmen will be in action Saturday night against their cross-town rivals the Manitoba Bisons. Start time at the U of M is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

WESMEN 73 Manitoba 47  Game Statistics

The Winnipeg Wesmen improved their record to 2-0 with a convincing 73-47 victory over the host Manitoba Bisons Saturday night at the Shoot For A Cure Women's Basketball Tournament at the University of Manitoba.

First year post Lauren Anderson led the Wesmen with a game high 15 points. Third year guard Yael Kaplan had 12 points. Kerri Kuzbyt had a team high six rebounds.

Robyn Eyer led Manitoba with 13 points followed by Stephanie Gill with 11 and Serena Carmona-Galdamez with 10.

Winnipeg gained control early on building a 22-10 lead after one quarter and outscored Manitoba 16-10 in the second quarter to carry a commanding 38-20 lead into the halftime break.

The Wesmen carried the play in the second half outscoring their cross-town rivals 35-27 in the final 20 minutes to make the final tally 73-47.

Winnipeg will conclude the tournament against the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.

WESMEN 70 Lakehead 55   Game Statistics

The Winnipeg Wesmen completed the 2012 Shoot For The Cure Basketball Tournament undefeated. The Wesmen beat the Lakehead University Thunderwolves 70-55 Sunday afternoon at the University of Manitoba.

Alyssa Grant led the Wesmen with a game high 16 points, including three-three pointers. Grant led the team with eight rebounds. Tia Coulter added 11 points. Katie Waring, Alex Warburton and Lauren Anderson each had nine points. Guard Yael Kaplan had six assists and four steals.

Jessica Dehaan had 11 points to lead Lakehead. Ashley Randall and Katie Ulakovic each scored 10. Rachael Bland hauled down a game high 10 rebounds.

Winnipeg held a 33-27 lead at halftime but Lakehead stayed close in the third quarter to trail 47-42 after thirty minutes. The Wesmen pulled away in the final quarter outscoring the Thunderwolves 23-13 to make the final score 70-55.

First year guard Katie Waring was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. Yael Kaplan was named to the Tournament All-Star Team.
