Women's Soccer vs Lethbridge
WESMEN 1 Lethbridge 0 Match Statistics
History was made on this day. The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Soccer team recorded their first ever CIS regular season victory with a 1-0 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns Saturday afternoon at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg improves their overall conference record to 1-8-1, Lethbridge sits with an identical record in the Canada West Conference standings.
Kelsie Paul scored the only goal of the contest in the 53rd minute of the contest. Paul, had several earlier chances but was finally able to put a shot past Pronghorns goalkeeper Taura Willoughby for her first goal of the season.
Wesmen goalkeeper Janelle Deniset made 11 saves for the shutout. Deniset made several saves from close range to keep Lethbridge off the scoreboard. Willoughby made 10 saves for the Pronghorns.
Winnipeg had the field position tilted their way in the opening half keeping the play in Lethbridge's side of the field for a good portion of the opening 45 minutes. The Wesmen registered nine of their 11 shots in the opening half.
The Wesmen played their final regular season home match and will venture out on the road to Alberta next weekend to face the Pandas on Saturday followed by a match against Mount Royal on Sunday in Calgary. Lethbridge will be at home against Regina and Saskatchewan.

The Calgary Dinos scored two goals in the second half to defeat the Winnipeg Wesmen 2-1 Saturday evening at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
Izak Lawrence (63rd minute) and Kieran Oppenheim (69th minute) scored for Calgary. Scott Ansell scored for Winnipeg in the 23rd minute.
Calgary's record jumps above .500 at 5-4-2. Winnipeg sits with a record of 0-9-3.
Winnipeg opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Scott Ansell took a perfect pass from Ralph Tolosa and snuck a shot past Calgary goalkeeper Jordan Unreiner for his second goal of the season. The Wesmen held a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Both teams started the second half on a cautious not with neither team taking chances while defending their own end. But things soon changed in a hurry for the Dinos.
A pair of goals six minutes apart turned the momentum to Calgary's advantage. Izak Lawrence took a pass from Kiera Hay to beat Wesmen goalkeeper Tyson Farago in the 63rd minute to tie the score at 1-1. It was Izak's third goal of the season. Calgary got the go ahead goal in the 69th minute with Kieran Oppenheim blasting a shot past Farago for his for his third goal of the campaign.
Winnipeg had chances in the closing moments but were met by a goalies best friend "the cross bar". Ross Pinhammer nailed the iron on a perfect penalty kick and in the closing minute of the match Justin Kutasiewich had Unreiner neat but his shot rang off the pipe to keep the score 2-1 in Calgary's favour.
Calgary had the advantage in shots by a margin of 19-15. Farago made eight saves for the Wesmen. Unreiner made five saves for Calgary.
Calgary will host Saskatchewan for a pair of games next weekend. Winnipeg will play at home next Sunday against UNBC.

WESMEN 1 Calgary 3 Match Statistics
The University of Calgary Dinos upended the home town Winnipeg Wesmen 3-1 on a cold windy Friday night at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
NIkki Furukawa (14th minute), Lauren Deeks (49th minute) and Kyra Rae Horvath (75th minute) score for calgary. Sheri Hince score the lone Winnipeg goal in the 59th minute.
The victory improves Calgary's record to 3-3-3 while the loss drops Winnipeg's record to 0-8-1.Calgary opened the scoring with the match only 14 minutes old, Nikki Frukawa took a pass from Amy Hockings and beat Wesmen goalkeeper Janelle Deniset for her team leading fifth goal of the season. The lone goal was the only marker of the first half, as the windy conditions made it hard for both teams to get any type of good scoring chances.
Four minutes into the second half Laura Deeks scored her third goal of the season taking a pass from Maddie Lee to give the Dinos a 2-0 advantage.
The Wesmen got back into the match in the 59th minute. Sheri Hince scored her first goal of the season taking a perfect corner kick from Claire Soubry to beat Dinos goalkeeper Kristen barton with a low shot to the far side.Winnipeg tried desperately to get the tying goal but Calgary got an insurance marker in the 75th minute on Kyra Rae-Horvath's first goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-1.

Calgary finished the match with nine shots. Winnipeg finished with eight. Both goalies made two saves for their respective teams.
The Dinos will take on the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday. Winnipeg will play host to the Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex at 5:00 p.m.

On a cool, blustery night the University of Calgary Dinos did just enough to defeat the Winnipeg Wesmen 2-1 Friday evening at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.
The Dinos scored two goals in the opening half and hung on in the second half to hold the a determined Wesmen squad to a single marker.
Izak Lawrence (7th minute) and Brett Howard (27th minute) scored for Calgary. Richie Rundle replied for Winnipeg in the 50th minute.
The victory pushed Calgary's record to 4-4-2. Winnipeg sits with a record of 0-8-3.
It did not take long for Calgary to hit the score board early in the match. Izak Lawrence opened the scoring just seven minutes into the match on a pass from Kieran Hay and beat Wesmen goal keeper Tyson Farago for his second goal of the season. Brett Howard gave the Dinos a 2-0 cushion in the 27th minute, scoring his first goal of the season.The Wesmen with a strong wind at their backs put prerssure on the Dino's the moment the second half got underway and at the 50th minute Winnipeg was rewarded.
Richie Rundle took a long pass from Oleg Andrushchyshyn and beat two defenders to the ball and was able to sneak a low shot past Calgary goalie Jordan Unreiner. The goal was Rundle's team leading fourth goal of the campaign.
Winnipeg held a 15-13 advantage in total shots. Unreiner made six saves for Calgary. Farago made five saves for the Wesmen, including a pair from in the goal area.
The two teams will wrap up their two match series Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
