Winnipeg 70 Lakehead 67 Game Stats
The Winnipeg Wesmen opened up the 2012 BOB FM Shootout with a hard fought 70-67 victory over the Lakehead University Thunderwolves Friday night at the Duckworth Centre.
Stephanie Kleysen and first year post Lauren Anderson led the Wesmen with 17 points each. Kleysen finished with a game high 17 rebounds to complete the double-double.
Lakehead was led by Carolyn Fragale's game high 22 points, including three-three pointers and seven rebounds. Katie Ulakovic added 14 points.
Both teams struggled out of the gate early on and it showed on the score board with the Wesmen holding a 10-8 lead after 10 minutes. Winnipeg found their offensive touch in the second quarter building a lead of 23-15. The eight point lead slowly melted away as Lakehead went on a run of their own to cut the Winnipeg lead to 28-25. Kleysen added a bucket before halftime to extend the Wesmen lead to 30-25 at halftime.
The Thunderwolves got back into the game in the third quarter outscoring Winnipeg 26-21 to tie the score at 51-51 after 30 minutes. Both teams exchanged buckets in the fourth quarter but the Wesmen did enough to earn the victory in a 70-67 decision.
Winnipeg will face their cross-town rivals the Manitoba Bisons Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. Lakehead will face the Regina Cougars at 8:00 p.m.
Regina 93 Manitoba 42
The Regina Cougars had no problem in their opening game of the 2012 BOB FM Shootout defeating the Manitoba Bisons 93-42 Friday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
Five Regina players, including four starters scored in double digits led by Lindsay Ledingham's game high 17 points. Brittany Read added 14, Jennilea Coppola and Danielle Schmidt had 11. Charlotte Kot came off the bench to score 10 points. Copolla led the Cougars in rebounds with nine.
Sheree Carmona-Galdamez led Manitoba with 12 points. Brittany Koop was next with eight.
Regina had the game in hand after building a 24-7 lead after the opening quarter and extending their lead to 48-20 at halftime. The Cougars kept the pressure on in the second half outscoring Manitoba 45-22 to make the final tally 93-42.
Regina will face Lakehead in the late game Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. Manitoba will face the host Winnipeg Wesmen at 6:15 p.m.

Winnipeg 70 Manitoba 44 Game Stats
A strong start lifted the Winnipeg Wesmen to an impressive 70-44 victory over their cross-town rivals Manitoba Bisons Saturday evening at the BOB FM Shootout at the Duckworth Centre.
Winnipeg never looked back after outscoring the Bisons 23-7 in the opening quarter.
Stephanie Kleysen led Winnipeg with 12 points. First year players Lauren Anderson and Megan Noonan each finished with 11 points. Noonan drained three-three pointers. Yael Kaplan and Katie Waring shared the team league in rebounds with five each. Waring also dished out five assists.
Stephanie Gill led Manitoba with 10 points. Sheree Carmona-Galdamez, Brittany Koop and Rebecca Potter each scored eight. Potter had a team high five rebounds.
The Wesmen, after their explosive opening quarter concentrated on defense in the second quarter holding the Bisons to 12 points. Winnipeg went into the halftime break leading 37-19.
Winnipeg shot the lights out in the first half connecting on 68% of their shots from the field. Manitoba struggled at 25% shooting for the opening half.
The Wesmen outscored Manitoba 33-25 in the final 20 minutes to make the final score 70-44.
Winnipeg (2-0) will play the Regina Cougars Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. Manitoba (0-2) will face Lakehead in the morning game at 10:00 a.m.
Regina 73 Lakehead 55
The Regina Cougars improved their record to 2-0 at the BOB FM Shootout with a 73-55 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday evening at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
Regina held a slim 36-29 advantage at halftime but outscored Lakehead 37-26 in the second half to put the game out of reach.
Danielle Schmidt led Regina with 14 points, including three-three pointers. Lindsay Ledingham added 12. Brittany Read hauled in a game high nine rebounds to lead the Cougars in that category.
Carolyn Fragale led Lakehead in scoring for the second consecutive game scoring 15 points, including three-three pointers. She also added four assists. Lindsay Inkila finished with 14 points and three-three pointers of her own.
Regina (2-0) will face Winnipeg (2-0) Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. The early game will see Manitoba (0-2) take on Lakehead (0-2). Tip off for that match-up is at 10:00 a.m.

Manitoba 60 Lakehead 54
Third year guard Sheree Carmona-Galdamez scored a game high 23 points to lead the Manitoba Bisons to a 60-54 victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the BOB FM Shootout Sunday morning at the Duckworth Centre.
Carmona-Galdamez finished the contest shooting 9-of-17 from the field including a pair of three-pointers. She also had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in 38 minutes of playing time. She was named a Tournament All-Star for her efforts.
Brittany Koop added 10 points for the Bisons. Rebecca Potter led the team with nine rebounds.
Ayse Kalkan led the Thunderwolves with 18 points. Carolyn Fragale was next with 12. Fragale hauled in a game high 10 rebounds. Fragale was named to the Tournament All-Star Team.
Manitoba led at halftime by a slim margin of 26-24.
The Bisons finish the tournament with a record of 1-2. Lakehead goes home from the three-day event with a record of 0-3.
Regina 79 Winnipeg 61 Game Stats
The Regina Cougars finished the BOB FM Shootout with a perfect 3-0 record after posting a 79-61 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen Sunday afternoon in Winnipeg.
Regina (3-0) beat Manitoba on Friday and followed that up with a victory the next day against Lakehead. Winnipeg finishes he three day tournament with a record of 2-1.
Michelle Clark led Regina with a game high 17 points and eight assists. Danielle Schmidt and Lindsay Ledingham each had 11. Brittany led the Cougars in rebounding with 10. Clark was named the Tournament MVP while Read was selected to the Tournament All-Star Team.
Second year forward Tia Coulter led the Wesmen with 14 points. Yael Kaplan finished with 10, including a pair of three pointers. Stephanie Kleysen led Winnipeg in rebounding with 11 and also dished out five assists. Kleysen and first year post Lauren Anderson were selected to the Tournament All-Star Team.
Regina went into the halftime break leading 39-27 and held off a determined Wesmen squad in the second half to preserve the 79-61 victory.
