McKay, Delavau Selected To National Junior Team
Second Year Men's Volleyball Players Josh McKay and Riley Delavau Have Been Selected To Canada's National Junior Volleyball Team..
The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with Volleyball Canada are pleased to announce that men’s volleyball team members Josh McKay and Riley Delavau have been selected to Canada’s National Junior Volleyball team. The team will participate in the NORCECA U21 Men’s Volleyball Championships set for August 27 – September 1 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“Riley and Josh have emerged from Manitoba roots. They played together at Darwin School where Jeff Delavau coached them in grade 8. At Dakota Collegiate Kris Funk, Josh Thordarson and Phil Hudson coached them from grade 9 to 12. The Manitoba Volleyball Association Provincial Teams organized by Mitch Davidson were key parts of their development every summer. Having two locally developed players selected to the Junior National Team as part of our program at the University of Winnipeg is a source of pride for everyone on our team. They represent the level of work and excellence all our players strive for”, said Wesmen head coach Larry McKay.
The NORCECA (North America, Central American and Caribbean) event, which is held bi-annually, will qualify at least two teams from the confederation for the 2013 FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship.
Canada hosted the previous U21 NORCECA event in 2010 and came away with a silver medal finish. Canada has won medals at five of the seven editions of the tournament.
