Soccer Kicks Off Inaugural CIS Season
The Wesmen Soccer Teams Will Kick Off Their Inaugural CIS Seasons On Friday, September 7th On Their Home Turf. The 2012 Schedules Were Released Today..
The Wesmen Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams will kick off their inaugural CIS seasons on Friday, September 7th on their home turf.
The women’s team will host the Manitoba Bisons at 6:00 p.m. The men’s team will take on the Saskatchewan Huskies at 8:00 p.m. Both matches will take place at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
Women’s Schedule
The women’s team will play a total of 12 Canada West regular season matches (six home, six away). After facing Manitoba, Winnipeg will play host to the UNBC Timberwolves on Sat. September 8. The team will travel the following weekend (September 15-16) to Saskatchewan to face the Huskies on Saturday, followed by a match against the Regina Cougars on Sunday. The Wesmen return home the following weekend (September 22-23) to face a pair of west coast schools. The UBC Thunderbirds challenge the Wesmen on Saturday followed by the Trinity Western University Spartans on Sunday. The team will wrap up September on the road (September 28-29) against Victoria and Fraser Valley.
After a bye week, Winnipeg will resume their schedule on October 12-13 at home against the Calgary Dinos (Friday) and the Lethbridge Pronghorns (Saturday). The Wesmen will wrap up their regular season schedule in Alberta against the Pandas (October 20) and the Mount Royal University Cougars (October 21).
Men’s Schedule
The men’s team will play a total of 15 Canada West regular season matches (eight home, seven away). After their home opener, Winnipeg will travel to Saskatoon for a Sunday afternoon match (September 9) against the Huskies to complete their home and home series. The Wesmen will travel to Calgary the following weekend (Sep 15-16) for a pair of matches against the newest Canada West member, the Mount Royal University Cougars. The team will conclude the month of September on home field with a weekend series (Sep 22-23) against the Alberta Golden Bears followed by a visit by Trinity Western and UBC the following weekend (Sep 29-30).
Winnipeg will start the month of October on the road with a pair of matches (Oct 6-7) in Lethbridge against the Pronghorns. The team returns home for three straight matches starting with a pair against the Calgary Dinos (Oct 12-13) followed by a visit by the University of Northern BC on Oct 21. The Wesmen will conclude their regular season schedule on the road in British Columbia against Fraser Valley (Oct 26) and Victoria (Oct 27).
