Heads Up Dinner & Auction A Great Success

The 9th Annual Heads Up Dinner & Auction Was A Huge Success. The Event Held This Past Week Was Attended By Over 225 People And Raised Close To $35,000..

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to last night’s Heads Up Dinner & Auction! Over 225 people packed Riddell Hall for the 9th and best-attended Heads Up Dinner to date, raising close to $35,000.The evening was made possible by Manitoba Public Insurance, our title sponsor for the second year in a row..

As always the live auction was an entertaining spectacle where game-worn team helmets are eagerly sought – such as the first ever, team-signed Wesmen baseball helmet, two Winnipeg Blue Bomber helmets (one with old logo and one with the new!), and some original Winnipeg Jets memorabilia. A highlight was the bidding war for a pair of  Jets season’s tickets between two siblings at the same table!

There were also words of inspiration from former student Ashleigh Sprange, a graduate of the Athletic Therapy (AT) program in 2005. She shared her experience of a recent snowboarding vacation in Banff where she “jumped into action” to assist an injured skier when the rescue team was still over an hour away.

Keynote speaker Dr. Michael West shared some of his truly remarkable advancements in brain surgery through the Gamma Knife – which is less a ‘knife’ than targeted radiation treatments to attack tumors and lesions. Dr. West established the first Gamma Knife in Canada in 2003 and since then, the Winnipeg Unit has been used to treat over 1600 patients from Manitoba and across Canada.

UWinnipeg offers a special thank you to the following corporate sponsors for their generous support: Manitoba Public Insurance, our title sponsor; Vale, a new gold sponsor; bronze sponsors: Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Lotteries, Manitoba Athletic Therapists’ Association; and our table sponsors: Sports Medicine Council of Manitoba, Sport Manitoba, Block Building Therapies, Health Sciences Centre – Section of Neurosurgery, Workers Compensation Board, Selkirk Mental Health Centre, Football Manitoba and Anderson’s House.

We are also grateful to the many donors and contributors to our live, silent and rainbow auctions – including our fantastic auctioneers: Ken Morrow Auctions ,who have been with us for the past 9 dinner auctions
