Brenton, Tonn Added To Wrestling Program
Wrestling Head Coach Adrian Bruce Announced Today The Commitment Of Briston Brenton And Stephanie Tonn To The UW Men's And Women's Wrestling Teams..
The University of Winnipeg Wesmen Wrestling program has added two more names to their growing rosters. Head coach Adrian Bruce is pleased to announce that Briston Brenton and Stephanie Tonn have committed to the Wesmen Mens and Womens Wrestling Programs for the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
Brenton (21) from Casper Wyoming is a two-time State Champion and was named both All-State and All-Conference on four occasions. The 510 graduate from Natrona County High School twice won the triple crown, winning a High School State title, State Freestyle and State Greco title all in the same year. Brison was a two-time National Qualifier as a college wrestler at Chadron State College (Chadron, Nebraska). The older brother of Wesmen standout and Canada West Rookie of the Year Jessica Brenton, Briston will bring some strong leadership skills to a very young program. He has a very impressive list of credentials and a great deal of competitive experience at the national level. He is an exciting addition to our ever expanding mens program, added head coach Adrian Bruce.
Tonn (19) from Barrie, Ontario joins the Wesmen after spending one year at Lakehead University. The 57 graduate from Barrie North Collegiate won a bronze medal at the 2010 Canada Cup. Last year she won silver at the Canadian Juvenile Championships and was the recipient of the Sports North Leadership Award. Stephanie wrestled out of the Mariposa Club team and was the 2011 Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Champion. She was named the Most Improved Female Wrestler three times and was a high school honour roll student. With her credentials I believe she is an athlete that will be able to step right into our program and be more than competitive. As an elite athlete and honour roll student, she is the protypical student athlete that will help form the foundation of our new wrestling program. We are very pleased to welcome her aboard, added Bruce.
