Women's Basketball Recruits Receive MBCA Awards

Women's Basketball Recruits Lauren Anderson, Kerri Kuzbyt and Megan Noonan All Received Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association Awards On Saturday..


A trio of women’s basketball recruits has been recognized for their accomplishments this past high school season. The University of Winnipeg Wesmen and the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) are pleased to announce that:

- Lauren Anderson
has been named the MBCA 4A Female Player of the Year.

- Kerri Kuzbyt has been named to the MBCA 4A All-Manitoba Team and the female recipient of the Carl Ridd Award.

- Megan Noonan has been named to the MBCA 4A All-Manitoba Team.


Lauren Anderson (Westwood) Female Player of the Year

Anderson, 6’2 post averaged 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks per game for the Warriors this past season. She was the No.2 ranked female high school basketball player in the annual coaches poll this year. Anderson currently possesses a GPA of 85% and will graduate in June. Lauren was named to the All-Manitoba team (2010, 2011) and has played for the Manitoba Provincial Basketball team for four years (2008-2011).


Kerri Kuzbyt (Sisler) – All Manitoba Team and Female Carl Ridd Award

(excellence on the court, in classroom and community involvement)
Kuzbyt, 5’7 guard was the No. 1 ranked female high school basketball player following the 2011-2012 season. She averaged 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals per game for the Spartans this past season. She currently has a GPA of 90% and will graduate in June.In 2011 Kuzbyt was a member of the MHSAA Girl’s Basketball All-Manitoba Team and the recipient of the Players Choice Award at the High School Provincial Championships.


Megan Noonan (Fort Richmond) – All Manitoba Team

Noonan, 5’7 guard averaged 20 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals per game for the Centurions during the 20110-2012 season. She was ranked No. 4 in the annual High School Girl’s Basketball Coaches Poll this past March. Noonan currently has a GPA of 93% and will graduate in June. She was named the MVP of the 2009-2010 Provincial Championships after leading Fort Richmond to the Junior Varsity title.

“I am very pleased that all three of these fine student-athletes have been recognized for their tremendous seasons. All of them have lots of potential and all three will have exciting university careers ahead of them”, said Wesmen head coach Tanya McKay.
