Game One - Wesmen 3 MSU - Moorhead Dragons 1 Boxscore
Josh Loewen threw a complete game to lead the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 3-1 victory over the MSU - Moorehead Dragons in the inaugural home opener Saturday afternoon at Shaw Park.
Loewen was on top of his game striking out nine batters while scattering eight hits and issuing only a pair of walks.
The Wesmen opened the scoring in the first inning as a triple by Drew Haight scored Wes Pomeransky to give the Wesmen the lead 1-0.
Winnipeg struck again in the third inning this time for two runs highlighted by a triple by Bret Heselwood, which scored Pomeransky to increase the Wesmen lead to 2-0. A single by Josh Drews put another Wesmen run across the plate to increase the Wesmen lead to 3-0.
The Dragons scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning to make the final score 3-1.
With the win the Wesmen extend their winning streak to six games and improve their season record to 7-10.
Game Two - Wesmen 3 MSU - Moorhead Dragons 4 (11 Innings) Boxscore
The Minnesota State University-Moorhead Dragons defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 4-3 in 11 innings to gain a split in a doubleheader affair Saturday afternoon at Shaw Park.
Tristan Hume's RBI single scored Kyle Langland from second base for the winning run in the top of the 11th inning.
The Dragons scored one run in the opening inning and another in the sixth to open up a 2-0 lead.
Dragon's pitcher Casey Smith had a no-hitter going until the bottom of the sixth inning. After Bret Heselwood scored to cut the deficit to 2-1, Drew Haight's double scored Wes Pomeransky and Nicholas Drews to pull the Wesmen ahead by a score of 3-2.
Moorehead scored the tying run on an infield single in the top half of the seventh inning to make the score 3-3. Winnipeg was unable to put a run across the plate in their half of the inning thus sending the game into extra innings.
Winnipeg (7-11) will head out to Moorehead, North Dakota for a doubleheader against the Dragons Sunday afternoon.
