Gale, Thordarson Named MCAC Coaches of the Year

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen in conjunction with the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference are pleased to announce that Women’s Soccer head coach
Mick Gale and College Wesmen Men’s Volleyball head coach
Josh Thordarson have been named
MCAC Coaches of the Year for the 2011-2012 season.
Gale led the women’s soccer team to its second consecutive championship after posting a perfect 6-0 record during the regular season. Under Gale’s leadership several players received individual awards including Sheri Hince (Conference MVP), Jeanine Froese, Kayla Jacobsen and Serafina Trunzo (Conference All-Stars). Gale will be the head coach of the Wesmen Women’s Soccer Team this September when both the men’s and women’s programs start their first year of competition in the Canada West Conference of the CIS.
Thordarson coached the first year team to the MCAC Men’s Volleyball Championship in February. They defeated the five time defending champions Red River College in a five set thriller in the final. The team finished the regular season with a 14-2 record and a first place finish in the standings. Several players picked up individual honours including Cam Baydock (Conference MVP), Nick McCaughan, and Stefan Dirks (Conference All-Stars).
“I am very proud of both Mick and Josh. They have both worked hard and have obviously attained the success they were looking for. It proves to me that hard work is the key ingredient for success, whether you are an up and coming young coach or a wily veteran”, said Athletic Director Doran Reid.
