Women's Basketball at Calgary
WESMEN 62 Calgary 88 Boxscore
The Winnipeg Wesmen ended their regular season schedule with an 88-62 loss to the Calgary Dinos Saturday evening in Calgary.
Calgary completes the regular season with a record of 14-6 (3rd place in the Prarie Division). Winnipeg finishes the regular season with a record of 9-11 (5th place in the Prarie Division).
Jessica Franz led Calgary with 22 points and added 12 rebounds. Erika Romanow finished with 18 points. Jenna Kaye recorded a triple-double 10 points, 14 rebounds and 13 assists.
Fifth year guard Amy Ogidan led the Wesmen with 22 points and nine rebounds in her final regular season game. Alex Warburton finished with 10 points.
The second game of the two game set was a complete reversal of Friday night's contest. Calgary was on fire early on in the opening quarter, building a 22-9 lead and outscored Winnipeg 22-17 in the second quarter to go into the halftime break with a 44-26 advantage. Winnipeg struggled from the field in the opening half connecting on 8-of-34 (24%) of their shots including 2-of-12 from three-point territory.
In the second half Calgary continued to hold on to their double digit lead outscoring Winnipeg 17-14 in a the third quarter to take a 61-40 lead in to the final quarter. The Dinos offensive display continued in the final frame, outscoring the Wesmen 27-22 to make the final tally 88-62.
Calgary had success from long range finishing the game 12-of-24 from three point territory.
The Wesmen will be looking for the wild card spot in the Canada West Conference Playoff round which begins in two weeks.

The Winnipeg Wesmen fell short in their final game of the 2011-2012 Canada West season. The Calgary Dinos defeated the Wesmen 94-78 Saturday evening in Calgary, Alberta.
Calgary with the win finishes the regular season at .500 with a record of 10-10. Winnipeg sees their season come to an end with a record of 4-16.
Tyler Fidler led Calgary with a game high 26 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Boris Bakovic added 21 points while Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson had 19 points, including four-three pointers.
Winnipeg was led by Eric Zimmerman's 25 points, including four-three pointers. Mark McNee finished with 14 and Andrew Cunningham added 11.
Calgary led 26-19 in a wild, offensive display in the opening quarter. The Wesmen cut into the deficit in the second quarter outscoring Calgary 22-18 to trail 44-41 at halftime.
After Calgary outscored Winnipeg 25-22 in the third quarter to take a 69-63 lead, the Dinos turned up their play a notch in the final frame outscoring Winnipeg 25-15 to make the final score 94-78.

The Winnipeg Wesmen snapped a five game losing skid with a 76-70 victory over the no 9 ranked Calgary Dinos Friday evening in Calgary, Alberta.
The victory improves Winnipeg's record to 9-10, Calgary sees their winning streak snapped at six and currently have a record of 13-6.
Yael Kaplan led Winnipeg with 23 points, including four-three pointers. Amy Ogidan added 14 points, six rebounds, six assists. First year post Alex Warburton scored 13 points and hauled down five rebounds.
The Dinos were led by Jenna Kaye's 19 points and four assists. Jessica Franz added 17 points and eight rebounds while Alex Cole had 12 points and eight boards.
After Winnipeg fell behind 9-0 in the opening 3:30 minutes of the opening quarter, Winnipeg mounted a comeback in a big way. Yael Kaplan was on fire draining four-three pointers in the quarter to lead Winnipeg on a 21-6 run to lead 21-15 after the opening quarter.
The hot shooting Wesmen squad opened up the second quarter on a 9-2 run to increase their lead to double digits at 30-17. Winnipeg carried the play for the remainder of the quarter, outscoring Calgary 24-9 to open up a 45-24 lead at the half time break.
After the half time break Winnipeg continued to carry the play in the third quarter, outscoring the Dinos 18-15 to lead 63-39 after thirty minutes of play. Calgary made the game close in the fourth quarter scoring 31 points but Winnipeg was able to hang on for the 76-70 victory.
The two teams will meet in the final game of the regular season, Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. (Winnipeg Time).

The Calgary Dinos defeated the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen 99-86 in a high scoring affair Friday evening in Calgary, Alberta.
Calgary with the win improves their record to 9-10. Winnipeg's record falls to 4-15.
Tyler Fidler led the Dinos with a game high 30 points and hauled down seven rebounds. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson added 24 points, Boris Bakovic finished with 19 and Keenan Milburn had 17 points and four assists.
Five Wesmen players scored in double digits led by Mark McNee and Eric Zimmerman each scoring 16 points. Benny Iko added 13 points and seven rebounds. Andrew Cunningham finished with 12 and Dominique Brown had 10.
The ability to work the ball inside worked well for the Dinos, who shot 54.7 per cent on the night and scored 42 points in the paint. Calgary also ended up winning the rebounding battle by a 36-33 margin, but they had to out rebound the Wesmen 25-12 in the second half to make that happen.
After dominating on the glass in the first half and scoring 17 second-chance points as a result, the Wesmen were within three at halftime at 51-48. Calgary ran away with it in the third quarter, however, shooting 12-for-18 in the frame and outscoring Winnipeg 28-14 to extend their lead. Calgary’s lead was as much as 20 with four minutes to go in the game, but Winnipeg poured it on late to bring it back to a more respectable 13 points at the final buzzer.
